I have a lot of thoughts about Cinco’s article about NAT here. 💭
Many of which he isn’t going to like, but they need to be said, as his article is so far off the mark, that frankly, it makes me wonder what his intentions are with it. 🤔
I’ll likely make a video this week when I have the time to fully communicate all my feelings about it.
But for now, I will say this:
Cinco, has made some pretty strong (and false) statements here, that demonstrate a clear misunderstanding of NAT, and also rather surprisingly, the difference between providing hashpower to the network, and increasing its security budget.
These 2 things are not the same.
And this whole “put up or shut up” stuff is about as tone deaf as one could be, and I cringed hard for large periods whilst reading this article. 😬
A supporter of NAT ofc has the choice to mine Bitcoin (as does anyone), but Cinco’s strong assertion that if they don’t become a miner, they fail to prove genuine commitment to solving Bitcoin’s (very real) security budget issue, is utterly ridiculous. 🤦
It’s like saying that if you care about increasing your country’s defence budget, you can only prove it by becoming a soldier on the frontline yourself (*cringes*).
Becoming a soldier increases the number of people providing security to that nation. ☑️
But it absolutely does NOT increase the budget available to pay for sufficient security. ❌
So if for example, a group of US citizens began a movement to help drive additional and sustainable revenue to the US army to ensure their country remained safe from attack, and then those same people were told that their contributions mean nothing unless they actually pick up a gun and get on the frontline, the very idea would be laughed out of the room. 😂
Cinco has clearly gotten these 2 things (network security & security budget) muddled up in his head, and I hope at some future date, ideally sooner rather than later, he is able to publicly acknowledge that fundamental error he has made here.
If you are an a dedicated OG NAT advocate, you are playing an incredibly valuable role in securing Bitcoin, so please don’t allow the opinions of people who have only just began trying to understand it convince you otherwise.
Mistakes such as these are inevitable for new entrants, and I’m sure we will all help support Cinco (and any other miners) should he wish to learn more, but articles such as these actually damage NAT’s mission, and Cinco’s specifically is actually pretty offensive, not to mentioning conferencing to our community.
And btw, I say all of this as a Bitcoin miner (currently mining BTC + NAT with
@SpiderPool_com) 🕷️
DMT-NAT says it can help Bitcoin miners.
My challenge to the NAT community: Prove it.
