I made it with just 1 hour left before the deadline!
I’m really happy with my two Shipaton submissions. A huge thank you to all the good people at
@RevenueCat for putting on this wonderful hackathon in what must be the craziest time to be a maker.
These past few months have been inspiring.
I’ve been making things on computers for most of my life, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I had this much fun doing it.
In a strange way, it reminds me of the early days of the web.
Back then, everything felt possible. Nobody really knew what the internet was going to become. There were no established rules, everyone was experimenting, and if you had a weird idea you could just sit down at your computer and try to make it.
I feel some of that same energy right now.
The distance between an idea and something real has become incredibly short. I keep finding myself disappearing down rabbit holes, learning things I didn’t know yesterday and staying up much too late because I want to see if I can get just one more thing working.
Not because I have to. Because it’s fun.
One of my submissions is Cibby, an app that is deeply personal to me. It’s the game collection app I’ve wanted to exist for years, and somehow this year I was finally able to make it.
The other is a surprisingly fun little strategy game that I’ve been making together with my kids. I can’t wait to share more about that one soon.
I don’t know where any of this is going.
But right now, sitting in front of a computer with an idea feels a little bit magical again.
Good luck to everyone who submitted. I’ve seen so many wonderful, weird and ambitious things come out of Shipaton.
And spare a thought for the judges who now have the completely reasonable task of going through 28,000+ submissions 😅
Mostly though, I’m just grateful that people take the time to make things like Shipaton happen.
To create an excuse for thousands of people to put everything else aside for a moment, chase an idea and make something that didn’t exist before.
What a wonderful time to be making things.
