in high school i built 4View software + hardware, it turned flat 2D images into 3D immersive ones, then into an interactive holographic experience the goal was helping students learn in a more visual way watching someone ship an interactive lens lab like this brings it right back ps: don't be too hard on the video, it was 10 years ago and i was 16
I asked Opus 5.5 to explain camera focus by building an interactive lens lab Here's what it came up with after 1 hour 26 minutes in one shot, $25.66 API cost lens.lab.sael.net Move the focus ring and you can see the glass elements shift the sharp plane through the scene

a couple of weeks ago i told to a few friends a highly related idea models are so good now a days that creating an app/website where you can just ask for the LEGO design of any given thing should be pretty easy the output should be not only the instructions to build the thing, but ideally a 3d printing model where you can print all the blocks you need as well anyone that has the time to do it feel free to do so :)
Opus 5.5 designing LEGO 👀 I asked it to design a Microduck I can build with real LEGO pieces. It: > designed it life-size using 1113 real LEGO parts > verified: 3,204 connections, 0 collisions, every step buildable, centre of mass inside the feet 🤯 > made a 141-page LEGO-style booklet (237 steps) > priced every piece in the browser and prepared the orders on BrickLink

this weekend I was reading a book on aging "You'd think people would have rebelled. You'd think we would have burned the nursing homes to the ground. We haven't, though, because we find it hard to believe that anything better is possible for when we are so weakened and frail that managing without help is no longer feasible. We haven't had the imagination for it." most of the work in this space is still designed around managing decline not around whether a different kind of life is even imaginable

In 1997, a developer publicly told Steve Jobs he had no idea what he was talking about. Jobs paused and answered with the most important business lesson ever delivered under pressure. Bookmark & watch today, no matter what.

Probably one of my biggest lessons after 8 years of building Runway is that long term thinking is rare and a very important moat: "Playing the long game makes you more powerful, because most other people you encounter won't be. Most startups competing with you will be run by opportunists hoping to be acquired. Most big companies you deal with will be run by executives who don't expect to be there for more than a few years and are only thinking about this quarter's numbers. So tradeoffs that only pay off in 10 years will usually be underpriced"

(+) en Clarín: clar.in/3UtXw1X

quick storytime before @heyato_ai I used to build every app in Flutter. I knew it better and I loved it. when we started Ato, the easy call would have been to keep shipping in what I already mastered: move faster, feel safer. but I didn’t. I bet that eventually AI would do most of the mobile app development, and that the stack with the bigger community would be easier for the models to work with. so we went with React Native. it was a hard decision. a year ago AI could already write code, but not at the level it does now, so I had to manually build the bases while learning the new framework. nowadays it’s completely paying off. adding new things to the app is way simpler than it would have been with Flutter. I’m glad I followed my gut back then.

IMO the biggest risk is people’s brainrot due to AI
Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade. I believe Anthropic is trying its best, but we do not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence and are not clearly on track to.

several families asked this week if the new version would support multi-devices the family app already lets you have more than one ato in the same house same profile, one primary, the other as backup if the first goes offline you can get the conversation running in both so yep, that's already working!

Introducing Ato, your grandparent’s next computer. Over the past year, more than 2,500 older adults around the globe have used Ato in their daily lives through our beta program, and today we're taking our next step. Ato helps seniors stay independent on their own terms. It gives families a simple way to stay close and the peace of mind that comes from knowing how they’re doing, without cameras or tracking. The new Ato lives in the home, becomes part of their routine, and keeps families connected, all through a simple realtime voice interface. Millions of families are trying to help someone they love stay independent while coordinating care across relatives, caregivers, and healthcare providers. We’re building Ato into the coordination layer that brings all of them together.
