Dublin North West
The people are angry the rents keep rising and the cost of living crisis is out of control. While the government are out of touch with the daily reality facing ordinary families. People are being pushed over the edge and it's only going to get worse.

Jennifer Carroll Mc Do nothing the Mickey Mouse health Minster is very silent in relation to the buget next week has she requested that the income threshold for Medical Cards be raised or abolished so hardworking Irish people can get one. The discrimination of Irish taxpayers in Ireland is insane it's time to abolish the means test system for Medical Cards in Ireland. The GP Card is not the same as a Medical Card it's that simple.

Something seriously has to change in this country when it comes to working class people and the way we speak. For years we have had the government and the media telling working class communities about racism and discrimination and how we should treat people. And that's fair enough. But when are they going to look at themselves and ask how working class people have been treated in this country for years? Look at The Commitments, The Snapper and Love/Hate. Some of the biggest Irish films and television programmes ever made. Full of strong working class Dublin accents. People loved them. Millions watched them and plenty of people made plenty of money from them. So our accents are grand when they're making somebody money or entertaining people. But turn on the news. Turn on a current affairs programme. Look at the people in senior positions in some of the biggest companies in this country. Where are the strong working class Dublin accents? How many people over the years have gone for interviews and felt they had to change the way they spoke because somebody might judge them the minute they opened their mouth? There's actually a name for it. Accentism. Judging somebody because of their accent. So maybe before people in government and the media lecture working class communities about discrimination, they should have a good look at how working class people have been judged because of their accent, their address and where they came from. And another thing that needs to change is education. Children should be taught properly about voting. They should be taught how hard people fought for the right to vote, why their vote matters, how government actually works and how they can use their vote to demand better for their own communities. Working class people have kept this country going for generations. Our voices shouldn't just be good enough when somebody can make money from them. If our accents are good enough for the cinema and television, they're good enough for the newsroom, the boardroom and every other room in this country.

"42% on the list are non-national... Irish people need to be housed first". Cllr. Gavin Pepper demands that social housing figures be released broken down by nationality in all local authorities.

🏠 I pressed Irish PM Micheál Martin on the pressure Ireland’s rapidly growing population is putting on housing — and whether Irish citizens should get priority for social housing. Martin acknowledged the demographic change has been “very dramatic.” But he said: “You can’t switch off an economy either.” I also asked @MichealMartinTD about figures showing 42% of households on Dublin’s social-housing waiting list were foreign nationals. “Our position is basically citizens get priority in terms of housing.” He also put Ireland’s transformation in historical context, pointing to the mass emigration that followed the Irish Famine. 🥔☘️ “Ireland had 8 million people in 1845 before the Great Famine. That led to the big wave of Irish people migrating to come to America.” 🇺🇸 His answer to the housing crunch? Build more homes to match the growth in population. 🏗️👷‍♀️ 🎥 3/3 on immigration from my @FoxNews Digital interview: Full story here ⬇️ foxnews.com/world/irish-pm-s…

Last night I supported @MalachySteenson motion addressing some of the serious issues facing Dublin — drugs, knife crime, public safety, Garda corruption and the deportation of non-Irish nationals convicted of serious criminal offences where legally permitted. I was genuinely shocked that only four councillors voted in favour, with others voting against or abstaining. Whatever our political differences, these are serious issues affecting communities across our city every day. Councillor Steenson brought forward a motion that deserved serious support and discussion. People living in Dublin deserve to feel safe in their communities, and as councillors we cannot shy away from difficult issues simply because they may be uncomfortable to discuss.

I don't condone gambling and never will, but people like doing the Lotto. A few quid, pick your numbers and hope for the best. People have been doing it for years. But what's happened to our National Lottery is shameful. We privatised the running of it in 2014. First it was mainly controlled by a Canadian pension fund and now the company running it is owned by the French lottery company FDJ. And let's be real here, it's a business. It's there to make money. Now we're seeing jackpots reduced, the average jackpot expected to be lower, some smaller prizes cut and another draw thrown in on a Monday. Match 3 can be €4 now. €4 😂 What's the point? Yes they've reduced the numbers from 47 to 45 so technically you've a better chance of winning, but people aren't stupid. They're looking at what they're actually winning. I'm hearing it everywhere now. "I'm finished with it", "I'm not doing it anymore", "it's not worth it". And maybe that's the answer. Stop doing it. Again, I don't encourage gambling whatsoever, but for people who enjoyed a Lotto ticket every week, it's sad to see what our National Lottery has become. It's supposed to be a bit of fun and a dream of winning a few quid. Not another money making machine.
