When three landslides shut down critical access roads in Colombia, geotechnical civil engineer Alex Cuellar Díaz evaluated 45 km² in Google Earth to focus fieldwork on the highest-risk 7% of the terrain.

Instead of sending crews across 45 square kilometers of rugged ground blind, Alex imported project boundaries and regional geological records into a Google Earth map project. He combined elevation contours, land cover data, slope , and checked historical imagery for erosion to build a shareable hazard map from his desk:
"By combining Google Earth's imagery, data, and tools with my own data, we could select our sites strategically and target field visits strictly to where they were needed. Google Earth allowed me to analyze my site, understand terrain, and tell a clear story with my findings."
