Ridiculous — over 60% of social care spending is for the care of people from 18-65 (like me) who have the nerve to be disabled before we reach pension age. We must break Burnham’s door down fighting this.
Andy Burnham’s announcement of free personal care as part of a new National Care Service will only apply to those over 65, and not to working-age disabled people, No 10 has confirmed, sparking shock and concern among disabled people’s organisations. disabilitynewsservice.com/fr…

1. We need to talk about Alan Milburn. He's one of the most shameless of the Blairite ministers in terms of raking in cash post politics (in private health). He gave us PFI. He guided Wes Streeting on health and now he's shaping policy on young people. labourrightwatch.wordpress.c…

"Are you a good benefit claimant? It's so disgusting to me." Green MP Sian Berry is calling out the cruelty of the current benefit sanctions system, describing it as an "extreme conditionality" based on behaviour. Hearing stories of people having their support stripped away for simply missing an appointment shows a system that leaves vulnerable people struggling and deeply demoralized. Her message on these punitive measures is clear: it just needs to go. #SianBerry #GreenParty #BenefitSanctions #UKPolitics #SocialJustice

We are shocked and disappointed that the vision of a National Care Service does not include disabled people of working age, who make up 1/3 of social care users and who are facing much harsher charges compared to older people. Read our full comment šŸ‘‡ buff.ly/VHauA7P

With job vacancies at a 5-year low, the Govt will only tackle the NEET crisis at its root by growing our economy and creating jobs. Those who can work need to be supported into employment but we can’t see a repeat of last year’s attempt to unfairly slash help for disabled people. The UC health element has already been halved for new claimants and PIP is not an out-of-work benefit. Young people need to feel valued and part of our community, not persecuted.
EXCL: Ministers are working up sweeping plans for welfare changes including scrapping key disability benefit for under-25s & replacing it with multibillion pound package of support to get into work. Whitehall sources said changes under debate were much bigger than previously thought, as Andy Burnham’s government hopes to persuade more people on benefits back into work. But the move could be fraught with political danger after last year’s dramatic welfare rebellion by Labour MPs. Ministers have spent weeks trying to persuade them the plans are about reform not cuts & feel confident opposition has waned. By @rowenamason @patrickjbutler & me theguardian.com/politics/202…
