A completely black king penguin, one of the rarest colour mutations ever seen in the wild, was photographed among a colony on South Georgia Island
Partial melanism is thought to affect around 1 in 250,000 penguins, and a fully black one is even rarer
Catching up to day 27 of #Spectember
Army x Horned
from a unregulated pesticide postapocaliptic world, after humans died to the loss of crops. A few millions without bees would make wasps target ants for sustenance, becoming fligthless raiders at war with anything that moves
Day 26! #Spectember
False Head x Plankton
The adults utilize their deceptive tails to survive predation attempts And their planktonic larvae benefit directly from developing that little trick soon in their development, being able to regrow it fully at this stage
I was aware of this paper and the overall idea of Sauropods having beaks for awhile, but I didn't expect a something like this! This really changes how I look at Sauropods forever. I love it! The next time I make a Sauropod, I'm making sure the head's restored more like this!
spore was the biggest disappointment of my youth and I aim to fix that even if I have to do it myself. check out these procedurally animated (arbitrary!!) skeletons quadruped-gait-atlas.pages.d…
I see you. I know you create a folder called Old Desktop and put all your stuff into it every year, and now you have a tree of them going all the way down...
Gigantoraptor skeletal reconstruction.
I hope that from this point on, I’ll be able to actively pursue my creative work again and keep up with this account.
Day 22 of #Spectember
Clipper x Sessile
Because where else can one find a photosyntetic proboscidean if not in spec evo, this asymetrical lad has a simbiosis with lichen growing in its wrinkly skin, allowing it to be sessile, slowly clipping grass without fear of hunger
For Day 21 of #Spectember
Widest x pollinator
A Diopsis fly from the far future of the somalian island, now a pollinator with 360• view, in the 10 million years since, sexual selection hasnt stopped, producing extremely wide eyed males
Remember when Nanshiungosaurus was meant to appear in 'Disney's Dinosaur'?
It would the first time ever a therizino would appear on the big screen. Even before any docs.
Shame it didn't happen. It would have a myrmecophagy diet, which is a popular theory for theris at the time.
The holotype of Harpesaurus modiglianii was collected in 1891, and the species was never seen again for another 129 years in 2018. The holotype's color changed to a bluish grey as it was preserved in alcohol, and this was erroneously taken to be its actual color in life.
