Striking how much more seriously everyone takes Dario Amodei's call for regulation of frontier AI companies than Sam Altman's similar call before Congress a couple years ago. Not saying Anthropic is pure or perfect, but trust matters. And it has to be earned.

Making AI safer isn't identical to making AI improve more slowly. And it's easier to see how external evaluations do the former than the latter.

Has anyone explained what pacing AI actually looks like? Other than safety exams and audits? How does anyone prove the counter factual of how fast AI performance would improve in a non-paced world?

But the world feels so broken. My own life has been quite successful over these years, and I personally anticipate the future with confidence and excitement. Yet I worry for my kids, my country, my people. As always, though, we move forward.
