Pretty sure there are more dots than bots already in this little world. Cool thing is that we’re improving them everyday and they learn directly from your feedback.

So is there a way to actually train/fine tune my dot aside from telling it what it did well and didn’t do well?
804
Very cool, using my Dot to check on my benchmark running on Claude Code, on my Computer, totally seamless. I could quickly see my Dot becoming a core way I interface with everything on my computer. The more I use it, the more I feel like the differentiator is going to be both the model, and just how darn good OpenAI is at Computer Use, it really can just do it all right out of the box. So far very impressed, congrats to the whole team at OpenAI, and with unlimited usage in chat rn, I don't even have to bug @thsottiaux for resets 😅

We shouldn't need the VPN gymnastics. Means I'd have to keep toggling the service when I'm not using dots. It's an extra job which I shouldn't have. OpenAI needs to lookup the definition of "everyone".

Yeah I get that it’s not the point, but given that Dots currently don’t have a usage limit (they obviously eat into codex limits when it calls it) I’d rather suck it up and make the most of it for now.

I honestly didn't expect the interface to be so controversial 😄 I just hit dial and move on. Just finished two 30 min conversations with my dot while on the road the same way that I'd talk to a friend on WhatsApp so for me the UI makes sense but you are not the first one to raise this. x.lingyaoai.com/athyuttamre/status/210…
we're experimenting with it! phone call feels more natural when you're speaking to an entity, as dots are. what do you think of it?

Honestly I like the phone call experience, it’s kinda cool - I just think it needs optimising, regularly dropped out on my drive to and from work today. I’m enjoying it more than I thought I would in all honesty.

As a European, I don't have access to OpenAI's dot anyway, but: somehow nobody's talking about it. My entire "for you" page is empty. It seems like nobody's really excited about it. Or is that just how it appears?

Of course I could install a VPN. But I'm currently using Grokbot, and it's great. I'm wondering if OpenAIs dot offers any real added value. But maybe I should just try it out.

Honestly I quite like it, it manages my codex threads essentially. Single point of contact for active projects.

It does, I’m in the UK and have had it for 2 days. Wasn’t expecting to get it but I forgot to disconnect my vpn. Ran the update and it was there.

The price at the pump matters—and may even be why you pulled into that particular gas station. But what you really care about is how far each gallon gets you on the journey from A to B. Not the MPG on the sticker, but what real-world driving proves. That’s why GPT-6.1 Sol feels like the best balance of intelligence and efficiency we’ve seen yet. Remarkable intelligence per token. Remarkable mileage in practice.

I think the disappointment around the limit reduction etc. from Dev Day has really overshadowed just how good 6.1 is. Been running it for 2 days and I’d take the slightly slower work rate for intelligence to cost ratio any day.

Friendly reminder for anyone in the UK that dots works just fine with a US VPN. I know it’s *not the point* but with usage being unlimited for the time being, I’d rather make use of it whilst I can!
My office PC still had my VPN on, I updated the Chat GPT app when I got in this morning and unexpectedly got access to Dots, I’m in the UK. Cool.

Besides getting more compute online, OpenAI also has plans to improve quality of life for users in the short term, with changes that seem to line up with a lot of the feedback I’ve been posting here. So I wouldn’t expect these updates to take too long.

Honestly I was annoyed with the rate limit reduction etc. but I’ve been using 6.1 SOL for the last 2 days and it really is strong, also been using the Dots feature way more than I thought I would. The last week for them could have been better but I’m sticking with them.

wait… if you’re burning through your Codex limits, why not just use Dots? your first Dot gets extended usage during the first month + it’s powered by GPT-6 Astra this might actually be the better way to squeeze more Astra out of your plan

Open weights should not require a rich kid`s computer. I have 4xRTX 3090s. 96GB of VRAM. I love messing with this stuff, but that is a ridiculous entry requirement for useful local AI. Qwen, give the 8GB and 12GB crowd something worth getting excited about. A useful agent. Enough context for actual work. Decent speed. "Just buy more VRAM" is such a bad answer. People should get to participate with the hardware they already own. That is where I want open models to win.

one year ago i started taking x seriously. since then it's made me over $30k, and brought in another $30k+ in compute and hardware from companies whose tools i actually use. this month i moved out of my studio into a bigger place, so i have room to build and film. i started shooting video, made templates, and i'm going all in on here and youtube. and i'm building something i'll launch soon. all of it came from two things: posting here and owning gpus. i want to help millions of people get what ai gave me. we're just getting started.
i've loved machines since i was a kid, and agents turned that love into something that compounds daily. this pile on my desk is independence you can touch. own some compute. not a lot, just some. because the labs are consolidating who gets to think with machines, and the only people who stay free are the ones who own the metal. start now, while starting is still cheap and easy.

We are so excited to launch dots today, an always on assistant that can do everything. Each dot has its own computer in the cloud so it’s able to take on anything you throw at it! We gave it: - a password manager that syncs your credentials across ChatGPT - browser use and computer use on any native Linux app - local computer use to seamlessly handoff cloud tasks <-> local, so you can work anywhere and it works everywhere Combined with the ecosystem of plugins, and the cloud coding environment, it’s truly remarkable how much it can do. I have used it from simple personal errands like keeping my badminton coach updated with my availability to complex work tasks like monitoring & actioning on product feedback from early testers that involve data analysis, testing website, slack coordination and committing code. The embodiment of the intelligence, the proactive messages, and the full power of a computer make it feel like a true personal assistant that frees you up and multiplies your ability to do ambitious work. The team worked really hard on this one, and we think you’ll really feel the magic when you use it!
