For those outside Scotland this is how free personal care (introduced by Labour/Lib Dems in 2002) works. It doesn’t cover by far the most expensive element of residential care, ie accommodation and living costs. I know of people paying upwards of £10,000 a month for their parent’s residential care costs. careinfoscotland.scot/topics…
More detail on this: Andy Burnham's new National Care Service will cover personal care costs - as per the Scottish system - but not residential element of staying in a care home.

For info. Nothing new in men lecturing women on feminism or Labour men denouncing women fighting for women’s rights as divisive. Part of a longstanding gang of men who fear women asserting their boundaries. Enjoy and own the company you keep but don’t expect us to celebrate it.

Meanwhile, @UKLabour Women's Conference today has had NO input from the women members of these trade unions - not important enough? Nothing to say on Violence Against Women, on housing, on maternity rights, on sexual harassment, on women's representation? Really? #Lab26
Incredible joint union solidarity event this morning. All 11 unions standing together with the trans and non-binary community.

“gender parity” is “not numerical” 🤔
Replying to @tribunaltweets2
mentions women and non-binary, but doesn't give numerical targets, we're going to work for parity, everyone is entitled to participate in the union. Carries over - some flesh on the bones, but it does not get to the point of any concrete action. Establish a robust framework,

Good luck to Alison and Norma - the indomitable @adfemtus - at the Court of Session this morning. Trade union policies must comply with the Equality Act in relation to the protected characteristic of sex.

We hope to report from the Court of Session today from 10 am. Two members of Community, the union, have brought a judicial review against Community.

Earlier today I gave evidence in the case of Sandie Peggie vs the Royal College of Nursing. I was questioned about this document which reifies ‘eunuch’ as a gender identity.

This is the individual (and former RCN member) whose threatening tweets I spoke about in my evidence.
Replying to @ForWomenScot
In the aftermath of this threat, many went into overdrive defending the individual and blaming us for contacting the police. This included Ellie Mulreany who was an official at Trans Pride Scotland and who wrote a long defence of VAW on the official TPS FB page.

Minutes from the June 2026 meeting of the ScotStat Board for Official Statistics. 14 months on from the UKSC ruling, and the Chief Statistician is still pondering how to collect data on sex and gender. gov.scot/publications/scotst…

Never in 30 years of providing and commissioning international human rights consultancy - for global businesses, UN and EU agencies, even the World Bank - have I seen a price tag like the one attached to Police Scotland's human rights advice. Quite apart from issues of content, questions must be asked about procurement and financial probity here.
NEW: Our latest blog looks at how Police Scotland has invoked the language of human rights to defend its shifting decision-making on sex and gender identity, and highlights a lack of transparency over the advice it is receiving. murrayblackburnmackenzie.org…

This is utterly extraordinary. The idea that major public sector organisations should procure “human rights” advice in this context as though it is a free standing discipline distinct from law is nonsense. A lot of money to get the wrong answer.
