javascript developer figures out how to unset variables. incredible things happening in the world of next(dot)js
TLDR: It frees up to megabytes of RAM for some real world Next.js App Router apps, especially content heavy sites.

simply preload every single visible link that the user can ever possibly click on and your nextjs app will be fast! also we'll charge you for the compute to serve all these API calls on our serverless platform! this is what they're pedaling. absolute insanity.

Have you tried next-ai-news.vercel.app? Everything is dynamic, zero caching, fetches from Postgres, all RSC, auth / identity on every page. If a navigation is slow it’s one or more of; - They’re not prefetching - They don’t have fallbacks / loaders - They have slow backends

i have always maintained that vercel/nextjs is scam-ware designed to extract money from VC funded startups into their own pockets via an inefficient software stack and a hosting solution that is orders of magnitude more expensive than what it actually costs to serve.

I kid you not, @itchio has been taken down by @OriginalFunko because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called @BrandShieldltd that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, @iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain

although i think that AI slop sending bullshit abuse notices is bad. a domain registrar ignoring a response to its abuse process and automatically suspending a domain of a business is far far worse, to the point where i recommend anyone who uses iwantmyname to transfer off.

o1 is trained with RL to “think” before responding via a private chain of thought. The longer it thinks, the better it does on reasoning tasks. This opens up a new dimension for scaling. We’re no longer bottlenecked by pretraining. We can now scale inference compute too.

tfw the poster has no idea what they are talking about.
Discord's Engineering is rough. (1/2)🧵 The backend has switched from MongoDB, to Cassandra, and now...Scylla? Discord has around ~150 Million Monthly Active Users (MAU). Facebook used plain PHP and MySQL as their engine until 2010, when they had already reached 450+ Million MAU. Facebook in 2010 had advanced search queries, a complex social graph, as well as a full system of games. Discord has...a slightly polished up IRC experience?
