The debate of men vs. women doesn’t hold much ground because we are fundamentally different. We are biologically different, psychologically different, wired differently, and often have different ambitions, wants, and needs.
Are men physically stronger? Generally speaking, yes. Are women, on average, more emotionally mature? Yes. Are women more creative than men? In certain areas, yes. Are men generally wired to protect their families? Yes. Are women generally wired to nurture and care for their families? Yes.
We know we are different. Nature made us different. And this isn’t unique to humans across species, males and females often have distinct biological roles and characteristics.
But equality has never meant that men and women must be identical. We seek equality because biological and psychological differences should not determine how we are treated socially.
Women are not assets. We are not property. We cannot be owned, controlled, or abused.
We want equality because society has not always treated us equally. Much of the social and institutional structure we inherited was historically created by men, in societies where men held greater power and preference.
So when women ask for equality, we aren’t asking to become men. We are asking for a level playing field. Nothing more, nothing less.
