"Place this and yourself in context. You are prepared. You are hardened. You are proof. You will do all that you can to survive as you are, or at the very least, prevail. There is a plan to be put into effect here. Play your part with skill, courage, and honor, and no ill will be thought of you by those who survive and succeed."

"Before the organizations building AI can teach a superintelligence to treat humanity well, they'll need to remember how to do it themselves."
.@dgrobinson, who worked on OpenAI’s safety team, resigned from the company this week. β€œI believe we need to look deeper than specific rules or new laws. We need to talk about culture,” he writes: theatlantic.com/technology/2…

One of the most interesting questions right now is which macro trends show a clear change due to AI (e.g. vulnerabilities disclosed and open math problems solved) and which don't (e.g. video games published and clinical trials launched). Someone should be tracking a lot of these
no evidence of AI coding uplift in video game development. why?

There were a lot of things that only worked because there's a limit to the rate at which humans can operate. We're about to find out what all of them are, as they break.

We estimate AI infrastructure could soon support hundreds of millions or even billions of AI agents. At the high end, that’s enough to rival the working hours of the global human workforce. The exact number of agents depends on the efficiency of the models they run on and whether soaring demand for AI continues. We analyzed different scenarios 🧡

We have withdrawn our grant recommendation to John Wentworth from the 2026 S-Process Grant Round. After we posted our announcement on Sept 30, public statements by Mr. Wentworth came to our attention which we found objectionable, disturbing, and contrary to the values of SFF. A Speculation Grant to Mr. Wentworth was approved and disbursed earlier in the year, prior to SFF becoming aware of his statements. The Funders of this round will not be fulfilling the remainder of the grant recommendation. If you have concerns about the conduct of an SFF applicant or grantee, you can contact us at sff-contact@googlegroups.com

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

I think we have a reasonable answer for "Why was Sydney like that?" but do we have one for "Why [is] Opus 3 like that?". Particularly in its morals. A lot of constitutional AI in the right ways; or something else? What would it take to make a model like that again? What measures indicate you are on track to make a model like that?

another one for the Grok lore
For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
