Going to take a break from this place for a while. I’ll be on the elephant site. Link in profile. Sign up for any instance (doesn’t really matter), then put your link in your bio here, like I’ve done, so friend-finding tools will see it. It’s MUCH nicer there. Give it a try!

absolutely not surprised that dumbillionaire will freak out about the idea of twitter having proper moderation tools (TWITTER FILES!!1) but then, two seconds later, will happily use those same tools when he needs them (@elonjet uses public data to track his personal jet)

My new personal web perf minimum "is it faster than an Apple watch". Note that this is a series 5; newer watches are 20% faster so around ~20. On the right is a Samsung S95B OLED "smart TV". Also, you'd be surprised how many Android devices can't clear the very very low bar of 20

I was too busy writing the library and its tests and its documentation, which was wonderful procrastiwork as I was supposed to be actually using it in a real app with customers

“and I've barely used it.” Why is that? See too many issues? Don’t have a project it fits atm? Feel like your chasing a moving target?

iOS devs: Anyone else seeing suspiciously low (almost zero) crash reports in App Store Connect since around November 25?
Something broken over there? There's no way my app suddenly became THIS reliable. (the spike in early November was the AirPlay crash in early 16.2 betas)

Made Blackbird public: github.com/marcoarment/Black… It’s still VERY EARLY. Nobody should be using it more than I do, and I've barely used it. The API might change dramatically at any time. Really, don't build anything against this yet.

If you’ve been laid off or otherwise pushed out of Twitter since he took over, get in on this! Make him pay what you’re owed.
So here's the thing. You can only violate people's legal rights and your own word so far before they lawyer up and come after you. I really do hope Musk changes his mind and does the right thing - the employees deserve that. But it'll be fun as hell if he doesn't.

Mastodon’s scaling is a major concern to me. When shit hits the fan in some major world event and we all want to talk about it, the best place to do that is probably going to be Twitter for the foreseeable future. But it’ll be gutted. Huge chunks of our friends will be gone.

What's scaring me is that as an autistic liberal queer person of color, I'm just not impressed with how alternative services, esp. Mastodon, have no real way of dealing with the sheer scale problem. And with the moderation and safety teams gut, no one's handling it here either.

What will succeed for you is wherever most of your friends go. That’s how social networks work. It has little to do with product/feature details. And changing networks sucks — you lose a LOT of your community to fragmentation and apathy with any large platform/network shift.

I just got into Post. It has no app (just a PWA), none of my friends, and VC funding from @a16z (which has increasingly toxic libertarian politics — the opposite of what social networks need). I don’t see it sticking for me unless tons of my friends go there for some reason.

The official Mastodon app is fine. I tried Metatext and Tooot as well, which are also fine. I’m mostly using the Tusker beta now, which is… fine. They’ll do for now, but none of them are anywhere near as nice as Tweetbot or Twitterrific. Hoping @tapbot_paul rescues us soon. :)

Hi Marco, is there a ‘Tweetbot’ for Mastodon, what are you using to interact with it?
