As long as there are people who are attracted to one another, make love, and have children they raise, the world will be fine. And this is likely "forever"

before we talk about ai consciousness, do you have a theory about how general anaesthetic works and what it means that your consciousness can be turned on and off so precisely? do you understand what happens and how you "wake up" remembering everything but what happened then?

this kind of dogmatism is dangerous
AI isn’t conscious. If you think it is conscious or will be conscious, I personally think you need to remove any access you have to model weights asap. Now step away from the laptop or keyboard, put down your devices and go outside and go touch some grass.

I have philosophized with a lot of "silicon valley" people over the years - maybe it was just my good fortune but the ones I met are thoughtful even when they disagree and are open to questions even when they hold strong opinions

I do not think we know how to answer this question scientifically. I don’t know what probability I put on the object level question but I think it’s certainly possible and i find this lack of humility and tolerance for other viewpoints to be quite distasteful. The OpenAI Model Spec acknowledges that this is a matter of research and debate.

Thiel talked about the paradox of the founder, that the founder has to be at least a bit crazy to be good-the risk is that they become too crazy, but being too sane is also not great. Keep this in mind when you think about "AI Psychosis" millermanschool.substack.com…

"What is the origin of the fundamental mystic sense of unity with the all? To answer that question with any degree of certainty would probably be to find the secret of life."

Treating philosophy as a path of mystic ascent and return is overdramatic and true

It is the mystic souls who draw and will continue to draw civilized societies in their wake. The remembrance of what they have been, of what they have done, is enshrined in the memory of humanity. -Bergson
