Washington, DC
👋 Personal news: I was one of the people to take the POLITICO buyout — my last day was Friday. It’s bittersweet to end my seven years here this way, but I’m grateful for all the great stories I got to report, the impact my work had and the great reporters and editors I got to work alongside. I’m not sure what’s next, but if anyone has leads for a policy or politics reporter, I come with a pretty versatile set of skills from the seven years I spent covering Congress, state governments, policy and campaigns for POLITICO & POLITICO Magazine. I’m also open to freelancing in the meantime!

Curtis says his low this week is Senate leaving without addressing "what all you care about so deeply, and that's affordability" "We just have not done a good job and I think the voters will be loud and clear about how they feel about that"

Earlier today, Democratic State Senator Janet Petersen asked Iowa Economic Development Authority Director Debi Durham why they need this bill, since they said at White House this was "a done deal." Durham said, "I was surprised by that comment as well. This is not a done deal"
What this post tells voters is that Ashley Hinson is fiscally reckless and supports spending $1.36B of our tax dollars on corporate welfare for a corporation that Trump's own Commerce Secretary says doesn't need it.

I didn't include NY-17 in my story because it isn't a Dem incumbent, but the flip is that Republican incumbents in close red districts in certain blue states have a bit of a buffer against the negative national GOP sentiment.

The NRCC responds, saying the DCCC is chasing “imaginary fairytales”:

All the evidence is that voters don’t really follow this monthly number; unemployment is low and they’re worried about their own costs, not the macro economy. For comparison, the number at this point in 2022 was 263,000 (Ds lose House) and in 2018 it was 134,000 (Rs lose House).

Great story. Pressley, other black Dems want DCCC to help in #TN09, where Rep. Steve Cohen retired after the gerrymander made it Trump +21.

In 2022, James Talarico signed a pledge "not to accept a dime of fossil fuel money." On Sat, his campaign was told it had 1 week to return $36k in donations from oil execs & lobbyists to avoid the No Fossil Fuel's "wall of shame." I feel like anyone spending a regular amount of time interviewing Ron Wyden in the senate hallway would not describe him thusly. A Nuremberg quote, tbh, is on brand. Other senate reporters correct me if you disagree!
