The change most SvelteKit projects will hit is the lib alias. It moves from a dollar prefix to a hash prefix and now runs on Node's subpath imports, so a directory import no longer resolves on its own. The migration tool rewrites them. If a build fails afterward with a module resolution error, look for lib imports with no file name on the end.

The Firecracker MicroVMs behind Netlify Edge Functions start in about 2ms at p99. Once a function's JavaScript server starts listening, we snapshot the VM. Idle functions scale to zero, and the next invocation restores from that memory-mapped snapshot, so the VM starts executing before the whole snapshot is back in memory.
@UnikraftCloud built that lifecycle, and we worked closely with their team through the migration.

Every Netlify Edge Functions deploy now runs in its own Firecracker MicroVM. Two deploys with different code or different environment variables become separate services, and they never share a VM. Even if a compromised deploy escaped the JavaScript runtime, it couldn't reach other customers or the compute layer. v8 isolates never gave us that level of isolation.

Agent Runners gets Sonnet 5.5 alongside AI Gateway, so an agent building in Netlify can run on it. In a Function, the changelog example sets the model to claude-sonnet-5-5 with a max_tokens of 4096, and the rest is a normal Anthropic SDK call.
