Cloudflare’s new cf CLI has more than 2,900 commands and is explicitly designed so coding agents can discover the right command from a plain-English task. That’s an interesting shift. CLIs used to be designed around humans learning commands. Now we’re starting to design them for software to operate software.

Mockups can get away with murderšŸ˜‚ Turn one into real HTML and suddenly the beautiful background image has fake form controls sitting behind your ACTUAL form, the text doesn’t fit and somebody needs the thing to work at 360px.

I posted recently that the best AI coding IDE might be a workbench that lets you swap agents rather than marrying you to one. JetBrains has basically just built that. Air works with Codex, Copilot, Junie, Cursor and other agents, while JetBrains itself isn’t the AI provider. THIS direction makes a lot of sense to me.

What bit of technology did you think was stupid when it first appeared, then quietly end up using all the time? QR codes? Cloud storage? Smart watches? Password managers? Voice assistants? There must be a few technologies we all mocked before surrenderingšŸ˜‚

Helped put together a coming-soon page this weekend with one annoying requirement: no scrollbaršŸ˜‚ Turns out forcing the whole thing into one screen is a pretty good way of finding out what the page actually needs. Every extra sentence suddenly has to justify the pixels it occupies.

Someone replied to my 1996 computer literacy post with a fair question: ā€œwhat would you even do with that knowledge?ā€ The useful bit wasn’t memorising IRQ numbers. It was learning that computers aren’t magic. If something breaks, there’s usually a reason and you can usually find it. I reckon THAT habit is still worth keeping.

What piece of completely normal 2026 technology do you reckon people will laugh at in 15 years? QR-code menus? Smart fridges? Apps for light bulbs? 14 different streaming subscriptions? There has to be something we’re all accepting today that’s going to look completely ridiculousšŸ˜†

Sunday builder check inšŸ’Ŗ What are you desperately trying to get working before Monday steals all your time again?šŸ˜‚ Drop it below. Half-built absolutely counts.

One thing I’ve noticed with AI coding: it has absolutely no emotional attachment to keeping your stack smallšŸ˜‚ Ask for one little feature and if you’re not watching closely you can suddenly acquire three packages, another service and a new build step. Generating complexity is VERY cheap now.

Forget autonomous agents for a minute. What’s the first really BORING automation you built that actually stuck? Cron job. Excel macro. PHP script. Email rule. Zapier thing. Whatever. I’m curious how many supposedly temporary little automations have quietly been running for yearsšŸ˜‚

Running your own VPS changes how you see websites. Eventually the magic disappears and it’s just processes, ports, files, certificates, databases and logs all stacked on top of each other hoping you configured them properlyšŸ˜‚ I like the web MORE when you can see all the plumbing.

I’m starting to think the best AI coding IDE might NOT be the one with the best built in AI. It might be the one that gives me the best workbench and lets me swap models and agents depending on the job. IDE as the workshop. AI as interchangeable tools. That feels more useful to me than marrying the whole environment to one model.

The more autonomous AI agents get, the more I think permissions become part of the actual product. Can it read my files? Delete them? Send email? Spend money? Touch production? Act without asking me? I reckon we’re going to start spending a lot more time deciding what they can and cant do.

One thing about construction is how often the physical equipment feels built to survive 20 years while the software attached to it feels built to survive until the next phone updatešŸ˜‚ Hardware companies really need to think MUCH longer term when they stick an app between you and the thing you bought.

What piece of software would you happily keep using if the developers announced: ā€œNo more features. We’re just going to fix bugs and keep this thing working for the next 10 years.ā€ I reckon quite a few products would actually improvešŸ˜‚

In 1996 you learned quite a lot about computers simply because they broke all the bloody time. IRQs, drivers, config files, memory, networking… half the knowledge arrived accidentally while trying to make something work. In 2026 computers are vastly easier to use. I wonder how much technical literacy we lost along the way.

Heading off on a motorcycle adventure this weekend with about 30 matesšŸ’Ŗ I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of spare brainpower lately thinking about code, AI, servers, websites and X. A couple of days where the main job is basically ā€œkeep the bike upright and follow the roadā€ sounds pretty bloody goodšŸ˜‚

I’ve posted a few times recently about AI replacing the app as the main way we interact with software, and OpenAIs Dots feel like another piece of that puzzle. We started with AI that answers questions, then models that make decisions for software. Now we’re getting AI you can give an ongoing responsibility to and leave running. Maybe the data, APIs and services stay exactly where they are. We just stop opening 15 different apps to use them, because the AI sits across the lot and gets the job done.

There’s a bit of chatter going around that Indie Hacker X has turned into the same 10-20 big accounts talking to each other all day. I don’t think it’s quite that simple, but I do wonder if ā€œindie hackingā€ has slowly become a content creator niche as much as a software creator niche?
