rbitcoin 0.7.0 is released! release highlights: * faster IBD 8h30ish full validation on my laptop* * smaller store - 720GiB fully indexed (860GiB peak during SH build) * increased test coverage and reliability * nixos module * Frigate-style silent payments * Electrum 1.6 and 1.7 and protocol support * less CRAPpy code * more consistent naming (no longer a mix of libbitcoin, core, rbitcoin) names download it and give it a try! still Production Ready™️, but getting less reckless with each release. thanks to @dpc_pw and @herogamer21btc for their contributions! * Thinkpad X1 Carbon G12 - Intel Core Ultra7 258V, 32GiB RAM, 2T Crucial T500 SSD
rbitcoin 0.7 is nearly ready - running a couple of mainnet IBDs to validate all the changes and should be able to cut the release tomorrow. reminder, if you took Production Ready™️ the wrong way and are running this in production, 0.7 will require you to redo IBD, so be ready for that. I thought I might run 0.6 in production myself, but turns out I had too many ideas to cram into 0.7. hopefully I'll put 0.7 into production. getting to production on my server will be interesting because it's backed by a zpool mostly on spinning rust with only a 40GiB fast SSD cache. bitcoin core took about a week to sync on that box last time I did it a few years ago. how long will rbitcoin take?

How I imagine @reardencode working on rbitcoin
"Hey, did you check my PR?" "Yea, looks good to me" "Did you read the code?" "No, did you?" "No."

Surprisingly busy day in rbitcoin land. Lots of PRs merged and good progress toward 0.8. Most of today's PRs are testing improvements and bug fixes, but we did also land a feature PR from @avg_gary adding Stratum V2 support to rbitcoin. I had originally intended to specifically not enable mining-focused features in rbitcoin, but it turns out you need some mining features to do even the most basic of testing in a bitcoin node, and then Gary came along and started contributing more mining support. So, here we are. When 0.8 comes out in a few days, I'd suggest treating SV2, along with I2P, CJDNS, and Tor support all as alpha features but do try them out if those features interest you! On the flip side, 0.8 will have pretty stable and well validated mempool backend support (thanks to help from bobberb), so that is up to at least beta stability.

📌 @reardencode's State-of-the-art rust bitcoin node implementation @rbitcoin_org, will: 1. Increase bitcoin client diversity for bitcoin layer 1 2. Concurrently, make Bitcoin Core a better implementation Win-win
Honestly, rbitcoin is becoming pretty decent software. not quite ready to drop the ™️ from Production Ready ™️ yet, but we're working toward that goal. Testing and validation are continuing. We just added an additional overnight fuzz target, and I'm having some long talks with @grok about improving our test quality and confidence as we stabilize for our next release in the next few days. The node is very nearly feature complete (actually exceeds my original feature targets) and has now had about half a dozen external LLM assisted audits for consensus, security, and DOS vulnerabilities. It might actually be worth running on a real production wallet infrastructure eventually.

This but 100% of your savings. Hopefully 75% or more of your wealth.
I fundamentally believe it’s irresponsible to hold less than 25% of your wealth in Bitcoin.

Feature: health probes during IBD. `--health-listen` (:9332) binds before store open: /healthz = up /readyz = tip + listeners (else 503) /progress = stage/%/ETA /metrics = Prometheus (`--metrics`) Liveness=/healthz. Readiness=/readyz. Never reverse. Thanks @satd_btc

Some people are deleting tests they shouldn't. Others are deleting tests that never should have existed and they were just too slow to understand before. For high performing software teams and LLMs, the correct place to do testing is at the same interface that your clients interact with the system. Most of the time tests at lower levels artificially constrain future progress and make specific code structure precious when they should be flexible. Before LLM coding agents most human coders symbol input rates were too slow to feel the pain of the excessive algorithm unit tests. Humans themselves would also become attached to their code structures and algorithms, so the tests didn't feel like a problem. Now with LLMs everyone sees what many have known for years or decades: unit tests are poison that entrenches the how instead of the result that matters. LLMs have much higher symbol generation rates than basically any human coder and aren't precious about their algorithms or past code. Don't get rid of automated tests. Write more, but write them at the level that matters, where they reflect user results that matter.
People deleting tests because “LLMs don’t need them” are at the fuck-around stage of development. Any guesses at how long it takes to get to find-out?

Long index builds on rbitcoin used to look hung in the logs. #898 (bobberb) adds a /progress endpoint on the health port showing the current stage, percent done, and ETA while address and filter indexes catch up. github.com/reardencode/rbitc…

Immigrants arriving at Ellis Island in 1903 had to pass a doctor’s exam that checked for diseases like tuberculosis and trachoma. In 1906, 12,432 people were turned away at the door. The ones who got in brought $25 MILLION in cash with them, because they knew nobody was going to hand them anything. There was no welfare, no food stamps, and no Medicaid. They had to actually work, or they were sent back. Also, Back in 1903 assimilation was the goal. Congress passed a law in 1906 requiring anyone who wanted citizenship to speak English, and companies like Ford ran their own schools to teach English, safety, and American history. A Ford English School diploma even counted toward a person’s citizenship application. Back when we were a proper country.. 💔💔

The BitVM family of bridges offer a clear improvement along the dimension of trust minimization. But they come with many other tradeoffs in their design space, and still rely on a trusted operator. GSR 📜 can greatly simplify BTC bridges and make them trustless!
The crux of shielded Bitcoin protocols like @ShieldedCSV isn’t the private transfer. It’s the bridge. Shield in. Unshield out. So what are the real options?

Welcome to the banana republic era. Hope you have some Bitcoin.
If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America, $5,000! Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to signing those checks!
Community note
This repeats a promise Trump made in September 2026. The US has approximately 250 million adult citizens so the total cost would be over 1.25 trillion dollars. Congress must approve any such federal spending. nytimes.com/2026/09/10/us/… pbs.org/newshour/polit…

After getting a Tesla, I realized I had stopped doing a bunch of little things: Checking gas prices Looking for my keys Stopping to refuel Starting the engine Waiting for the AC or heat to make the cabin comfortable Individually, they’re nothing. Add them up over years of driving and it’s a different story. That’s the kind of convenience you don’t really understand until you experience it.

We are being extremely careful with autonomous safety, just as we are with making Teslas the safest cars in the world for human driving
