Across the globe, people increasingly say social media is harming democracy. In rich countries this opinion is more common than in poor countries. Source: buff.ly/Hg2ArGl

Academic research suggests roughly 5–8% of adults identify as LGBTQI under conventional definitions. Broader measures capturing same-sex attraction, behaviour, gender diversity or intersex traits put the share closer to 10–15%. In the US the share of 9th graders identifying as LGB has been falling back to long-term average of around 10% recently after what seem to have been a temporary spike. HT @jean_twenge

How the American life changed from 1995 to 2026 is wild. More concerts, more exercise, more video games. Fewer books, less church, not staying at work longer (I guess you leave on time and continue work at home?). Source: buff.ly/QkmYfkv

The share of US Americans who say they host friends or family at their home at least monthly has declined by 71 percent in the last 50 years. Other activities took a huge hit too. Be crazy this week and invite a friend or two over for dinner. The next day recover from the socialising by reading a book. Source: buff.ly/7GaA1ZS

This chart shows that 2.87 Manhattans ($2.89T GDP, 4.7M people) equal the economic output of the entire continent of Africa (1.5B people). Some criticisms of the map: It uses nominal GDP instead of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), ignores Manhattan's 1.6M daily commuters, and benefits from global corporate revenue booked in NYC. Still a very stark contrast!
