Tennis playing robot from the paper LATENT by @Zhikai273 et al - an example of the awesome whole body control now possible with humanoid robots, recent winner of IROS 2026 best paper on entertainment robotics.
What do robot sports teach us?
We have seen incredibly cool progress in robot soccer and tennis recently, but just as interesting is what we definitely do not see.
Robots are increasingly capable of incredibly fluid, reactive whole body control - but their ability to perceive the world while doing so is incredibly limited. And so we see shortcuts being taken, external trackers used, to avoid the limitations of onboard sensing and sensorimotor control while in challenging environments.
The future of robotics will require closing this gap.

CMU has been having quite the year 🚀 :
Jan. 14: Skild AI, founded by CMU robotics professors, raises $1.4B
Feb.: Singles’ Inferno 5 gives CMU alum the spotlight
Jul. 29: Moonshot AI, founded by CMU PhD alum, raises $3.5B
Sep. 30: Ken Griffin announces a $3B gift to CMU
Imagine if griffin built a fancy Miami campus and housed all of CMUs CS department there 🫢. Amazing weather, state of the art facilities. It’d be the dawn of new era for CMU CS 🌅
People ask what is the most ai proof job. I’d say it’s more important now than ever to stay curious and avoid doing anything boring or monotonous. Frontier models struggle to do anything it’s never seen before. So ironically the more adventurous you are the less you have to fear
CMU’s school of computer science will now be called the Kenneth Griffin School of Computer Science 🫢 Griffin trying to reshape the future of AI at the source
The hallucinations and gaslighting are strong with muse. It doesn’t have easy access to recent chat history and will deny before checking. Luckily I can tag a message from earlier to remind it but still a step back.
Feather Robotics just raised $7.6M pre-seed led by Gradient to build a $29,990 wheeled bimanual humanoid platform for third-party developers. 10-hr battery, full SDK, already $1M+ revenue. The anti-vertical-integration bet: Android for physical AI.

I once tried exploring computer use AI to automate tasks but the number of anti bot detections online made it infeasible. I just tried to use muse to sign into my X account and it got blocked. If meta can’t solve computer use, I’m glad I never went down this rabbit hole
“Turns out that a lot of what people called relationships was simply friction with a friendly face.”
Ironically, Meta’s @Muse may be the opposite: technology removing the friction, while giving the machine a friendly face.
“Machines optimizing for price and fit do not care about your favorite app or the websites you’ve been habitually opening for the last four years, nor feel the pull of a well-designed checkout experience” — citriniresearch.com/p/2028gi…
