maybe the next coding environment isn’t really an ide at all. ides were designed around a human directly manipulating files. but increasingly i’m describing outcomes, letting agents operate across the repo and then reviewing what happened. at some point the interface probably needs to be designed around supervising work instead of editing code.
I haven’t touched Claude Code or Codex CLI in a while. The terminal era is over imo. It's the wrong interface for coding agents. Tabs are ephemeral, but context is persistent, and managing 30 tabs is pure cognitive overhead. I don’t really need an IDE like Cursor either. I rarely navigate the whole codebase anymore. The new primitive is the agent, not the file. (Codex desktop app is the best agentic UI for now. But we’re still early.)

one thing about sam, he will know exactly which side of the discourse to jump into and exactly when very clever man and generational opportunist.
I am very uncomfortable about people trying to ascribe religious force or a surrender of human judgment to AI models, and think it is a real safety issue.

tibo lost so much aura over the last couple weeks that he’s getting ratioed under his own hype posts now they somehow turned “we’re six months ahead” into “please wait until next week” in record time. openai’s marketing has been a fucking disaster.

here we fucking go again. david robinson just left openai after overseeing safety reports for 12 frontier launches. he says his team was apparently “so busy sprinting” from launch to launch that they rarely had time to even consider major changes. and yeah, this is a problem. i want ai moving ridiculously fucking fast. but you can’t have capabilities accelerating like this while the people responsible for understanding and controlling them are permanently sprinting just to keep up.
New in The Atlantic: @dgrobinson resigned this week. He was among the longest-tenured employees at OpenAI—and oversaw safety reports on 12 frontier launches. He is very worried: “The time for trial and error is over.” You can read his essay here: theatlantic.com/technology/2…

spacex has all this insane ai infrastructure and somehow the software side of the stack still feels weirdly disconnected. but imagine if all of it eventually felt like one fucking developer platform. they already own so much of the expensive infrastructure underneath it that building the developer layer on top almost feels obvious.

The fact that “noncitizens shouldn’t vote in American elections” has somehow become a constitutional controversy is fucking insane.

after how badly devday landed, openai genuinely needs whatever they’re releasing next week to be fucking huge. this might actually be the perfect opportunity too. devday disappointed the fuck out of everyone expecting a real leap. expectations are down now. so don’t fucking talk. just drop something ridiculous next week and take the entire conversation back.

Hey now. You don’t know what we’re releasing next week

everyone telling me “bro you don’t understand marketing, they were just building hype.” THAT’S MY FUCKING POINT if you spend weeks making people think you’ve found some enormous new advantage, the reveal has to justify the expectations YOU created. you can’t scream “we found a new thing,” brag about pulling your roadmap forward by six months, and then ship products that are mostly competitive with things already on the market. at that point you didn’t build hype. you just set yourself up to disappoint everyone.
i’m genuinely curious what the fuck happened at openai. tibo was literally bragging that astra boosted their productivity so much they moved products forward by SIX MONTHS and were able to ship them at devday. then the night before devday sam comes out with “we have found a new thing.” like… how the fuck were we supposed to interpret all of that then devday happened and i genuinely didn’t see anything that looked like a six-month leap in ai. what exactly were they talking about?

This is why Elon’s insane compute buildout makes sense. AI adoption is still tiny, but if intelligence becomes ubiquitous, the demand for compute is going to be fucking enormous. He’s betting on where demand goes, not where it is.

There is acceleration and then there is whatever the fuck Elon is doing right now. 420,000 GPUs coming online in a single month is fucking insane.
Exclusive: SpaceXAI plans to bring roughly 420,000 Nvidia GPUs online in November as it races to meet billions of dollars in new compute commitments. Full story: thein.fo/4s0UJdn

There is something seriously fucking wrong with the culture inside Anthropic.
NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious. Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm. For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…

I’m increasingly convinced the weirdest thing about Claude isn’t Claude. It’s the fucking lunatics building it. Imagine becoming so unbelievably high on your own bullshit that you pick a fight with the Pope because he won’t validate your beliefs about machine consciousness. Anthropic needs to get its fucking head out of its ass.

Anthropic has officially disappeared so far up its own fucking ass that the Catholic Church apparently had to bring it back to reality.
Holy shit they wanted Claude to become the new Jesus and the Church refused

Anthropic is a fucking cult masquerading as an AI company. Every new story somehow makes these people sound even more deranged.
