When developping a simple game, the coding system I was using was too old as I learned from old youtube videos. Whule I tried hours to fix it, I was unable to but then learned the issue. Because the app I was using is new version it used a different type of codes so after larning that I had to uninstall the recent version and download the old app to make the game.

As a finance coder for 2 decades the weirdest issue I fixed was one built to be extraordinarily difficult and mirror the solar system and all the planets in it. I learned what a quark was and how the programmer before me used little known physics concepts to confuse everyone.

Debugged Flutter for hours cause the API only died on the emulator. Real phone? Fine. The villain was one missing s, http instead of https. Emulator ghosted me. Phone did not. I am not okay.

Hardware failures suck and take so long to figure out. I think for me it was days before I figured out the DVD drive on my computer was the problem.

was learning how to make a simple one page website (one of my subjects in computer engineering year 2002). i spent way too long wondering why my page wasn’t displaying properly and was just showing the code instead. turns out… it was literally one misspelled word XD

Many years ago I worked on embedded firmware and found a pointer overflow and fixed it in my version (this was before things like GitHub) but it remained in main code and they couldn’t work out why it kept crashing - only when my code ran no crashes so had to work back and fix

Forgot the +1 for the null terminator in C and spent way too long wondering why everything randomly broke. It worked before I added the +1, so obviously the +1 must have been the problem. 💀

I assume static routes work forever. They break as soon as the network changes (new links, IP changes, outages). I forget to test after changes and get surprised with "network down" alerts.

As a web developer, the weirdest bug I have ever spent way too long fixing is a javascript error when I config a calendar jquery library. At that time, I config German language and not work on ios. It turned out the cause was a special character error in the language 🤕

My weirdest bug was caused by a perfectly valid assumption I had made months earlier. Those are always the most expensive bugs.

I spent hours on one bug only to realize that the string had a space in front 🛑 const myVar = " something_useful" ✅ const myVar = "something_useful"

My weirdest bug took 3 days to find everything worked perfectly except when the system was connected to a second monitor. Turns out, a forgotten CSS media query was changing a button’s position by 1px, making clicks miss the target. The fix?One character. The debugging trauma.

Wasted 3+ hours on an infinite loop in React. Everything looked fine. The useEffect dependency array was supposed to be [] but I wrote [[]]. One extra pair of brackets and the app was dying slowly.

I remember the first time I started vibe coding I was trying to build a currency converter The ai generated code was not working because of the api we have tried everything So I sent email to the api company and developer after looking at my code got back to me saying there was no api key just the phrase” api key goes here “. in my code 😅 I was on the problem for two days

2nd. I had to debug/resolve a bug on a FE (React) / BE .net Function App that was using Keycloak for authentication and supplely Entra ID ready. We switched to Entra the entire app broke, I had to troubleshoot JWT, custom claims, custom libraries on a multi repo with poor logging

Once spent 3 hours debugging why my API was returning 401… Turns out I had put the API key in the URL as a query param instead of the header 😭 Felt like a complete idiot

My AI financial agent approved a typical user to buy a luxury yacht because it projected they would become a millionaire. I discovered the vision model had OCR'd a receipt and mistaken a 10-digit Wi-Fi password for a deposit! read a text about coffee, and made it recurring income

Spent hours debugging an API that randomly returned "401 Unauthorized"… only to discover the system clock on one server was 7 minutes behind. 😭 The token was valid. The code was fine. Time itself was the bug. 😂

Deployed the app. It couldn't fix the hostname and dns for hours . Remove the other nameserver add it to one . Add the correct hostname and url and deployed it 🚀

I was trying to fetch some data from an api endpoint, and was using epoch in ms for the time range as described by the documentation, wasn't working, tried several times and just used epoch in seconds instead of me, and it worked! Reported the error to the documentation owner ofc.

Spent hours debugging an SMS that split into multiple messages. It was exactly 160 characters. Then I found one curly apostrophe had changed the encoding and lowered the SMS limit. One punctuation mark cost me half a day. Unicode remains undefeated.

Have debugged straight for 7hrs, it all started with basic functionality broken for v6. Then started debugging and found that we were using memcpy of v6 on the v4 structure member. It was a 2 lines fix, but I was literally only able to figure it out at 4 AM 🤧

Fix one bug, and somehow two more bugs spawn out of nowhere. 😏💀 That’s not debugging, that’s bug reproduction!

Drag and drop was the one that aged me. No DnD libraries back then. Hand-rolled events, pixel comparisons, flaky browser support. Spent months chasing a “simple” drag.

Weirdest bug was when my code was no longer compiling from the day before without code changes. I realized I had installed a different Python version for a different project and it had overriden my main project
