Architecture is downstream from law.
If your buildings are ugly, inert, overpriced, and impossible to build, the problem is not just aesthetic. It is political.
This week on the Free Cities Podcast... @patrik_schu on why bad governance produces bad cities.
The delta (blue v red) indicates inertia & hidden variables. Architect here.. if chart is true, AI should automate its own data centers & there should be less data center AEC jobs. Reality per bls.gov ? Jevons paradox: faster design -> MORE demand."
Architects ought to embrace, not fear AI. Every project's unique triumvirate (financing and budget, site and compliance, client and end user needs) brings ‘wicked’ puzzles, moving targets and endless trial & error. Neither humans nor AI can autonomously navigate this at scale.
AI today is an English teacher winning gold at the Maths Olympiad.
Not an unrelatable mad genius — just ChatGPT, good old chatbot. Nobody blinks an eyelid. Remarkable!
If your oeuvre is mature, don’t waste it reinventing for AI—use it for exploitation, refining, and scaling. If your language is still evolving, exhaust yourself striving for the AI-native aesthetic. Either way, hunker down.
If your aesthetic can be made without AI, just slower, you’re ain’t no AI designer. You’re riding the coattails of an avant-garde artist who is symbiotic with their medium. Computational designers, creative coders, algorithmic musicians all seek outputs impossible any other way.
Architect Shajay Bhooshan @wework4her revealed how gaming mechanics, AI, and tokenized coordination are converging to solve urban governance's biggest challenge: inclusive decision-making at scale.
AI in the design, solves the onboarding problem. GenAI is the catchy riff that draws one in, before the gritty work of developing a style, technical mastery and intellectual fluency through years of exploration, self-doubt, pursuit of excellence.
Vibe coding may evolve to support fast-paced customisation of project workflows, needed in AEC and other collaborative disciplines. At scale, Computational Design is a permanent hackathon and typically cannot keep pace with “wicked problems, heterogenous stakeholders etc.

Virtual architecture is real architecture, virtual cities are real cities, and tethering them unto physical buildings and cities will greatly benefit both.
