CHECKMATE ♟️ Tesla has self-certified a separate robotaxi software stack as Level 4 for unsupervised operation in restricted geofenced areas (such as parts of Texas), where no human driver is required inside the operational design domain. When the market is ready, Tesla will still be ahead of the rest.
Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, Dodge, and Ram, claims it has solved Level 3 autonomous driving. However, because the market isn't ready for such amazing technology, they aren't releasing it yet. "The technology is fully developed and ready for deployment; however, the current market for Level 3 autonomous driving is very limited. We have made the strategic decision not to launch it at this time. Once the market opens up and becomes more receptive, we will move forward with introducing this advanced technology." - Stellantis company spokesperson Dan Reid, Feb 23, 2025.

Can our brains synchronize remotely? Imagine yourself in Florida and try this 👇 if you want to try it together, say hello and tell me what state you’re from and I’ll do the same with your profile picture (if you have a real picture of yourself)…let’s experiment 🧪

I bet you eye contact has something to do with it 🤔 I wonder if we can we can do it remotely with just a picture. Try clicking on my profile picture, zoom in and look into my eyes and let’s see if it works. I love a good science experiment.

I don’t often talk to @Pontifex but when I do, I hope he’ll forgive me for correcting his misunderstanding and misjudgment of AI art😬
Replying to @Pontifex
I think you misunderstand how AI works for artistic rendering and because of this it gets a bad reputation. AI learns to make pictures the same way a child learns by looking at thousands of drawings, photos, and paintings that people have already made. It does not walk around and see the world with its own eyes. Instead, it studies a huge library of pictures humans have saved and notices patterns: what a tree usually looks like, how light falls on a face, which colors often go together. When someone gives it a prompt - like “a knight under a bright moon” - it starts with a blank, messy page of dots and slowly cleans it up, step by step, until the picture matches the patterns it learned. The idea and the request still come from a person. The AI simply has a much bigger collection of examples to draw from than any one artist could study alone, so it can mix and match those remembered patterns very quickly. It is like a very fast student who has looked at more pictures than anyone else, but still needs a human to tell it what to try to make. You completely bypass the prompters God given talent to explain the scene or vision in their mind and the honing of their skills to interpret and integrate it with this tool simply because you don’t understand the technology. That’s a shame.

People ask me why I don’t like going to the doctor. Someone just said “Doctors aren’t secretly hoping people get sick; they’re defending a business model that rewards treating illness over preventing it.” They have lost sight of treating people with care, attention, dignity and intention to heal - shamefully look at us as a business opportunity which is counter to the roots of both modern medicine and Hippocrates. “Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.”
This is not valid actually. “The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; a calling, not a business; a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head. Often the best part of your work will have nothing to do with potions and powders, but with the exercise of an influence of the strong upon the weak, of the righteous upon the wicked, of the wise upon the foolish.” -Sir William Osler (1849–1919), often called the father of modern medicine. It comes from his 1903 address “The Master-Word in Medicine,” later printed in Aequanimitas Osler is early modern medicine, not ancient. The older root of the same idea is the Hippocratic tradition (around the 5th–4th century BCE): the physician’s first duty is the patient’s good. The classic formulation in Epidemics is to “help, or at least to do no harm,” and the Oath binds the physician to use treatment “for the benefit of the sick” and to enter a house only for that purpose. At some point greed took over and lives have be lost unnecessarily. Do they want to heal humanity or fatten their bank account?

The history matters but let’s not pretend that what’s going on today is the same as what occurred in the past by the school’s founder. Around 1905–1910, Carnegie Technical Schools charged about $20 a year (or $5 for some Pittsburgh night students), while common Pittsburgh steelworkers typically earned roughly $500–$750 annually when work was steady, so the fee equaled about 3–5 percent of a millworker’s yearly pay. Carnegie Mellon’s published undergraduate tuition for 2026–27 is $69,702, compared with a 2025 U.S. median household income of $87,460, so one year of sticker tuition equals about 80 percent of the median household’s income. The original fee was a small self-help contribution that a working family could cover from a few weeks’ wages; the modern sticker price is a large share of a full year’s household earnings before any financial aid. Andrew Carnegie would almost certainly have viewed the gap as a betrayal of the school’s original purpose.
