@kicker, Uli Hoeneß says he's very happy with the funds the club managed to raise in the summer by selling Campus players. Hoeneß has even called it “summer of the century”, saying that when the Campus was established, he was thinking more about producing players for the first team than generating transfer revenue from sales.
Hoeneß calls the resulting income “a nice side effect,” adding that the academy has long since paid for itself. And in an era of exorbitant salaries, it can also help ease the financial burden on the first-team budget.
Bayern are developing players for themselves, for other clubs, and for their own coffers. The Campus will not always be able to deliver a transfer window like the one they had last summer.
