The Fermi Explorer will be the first spacecraft to launch to another star. It will launch in 2029, on a journey that will take around 77,000 years, for USD 15M

Did you know that humanity has never launched a spacecraft to another star? That is about to change! We have created a non-profit to attempt to send humanityโ€™s ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐˜ ๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ณ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟโ€ฆ and we need your help! We have formed non-profit The @FermiExplorer Mission with the goal of launching a minimum viable spacecraft to Alpha Centauri, the nearest star system, leaving in 3 years and arriving in around 80,000 years. We hope it will be both the first spacecraft to leave Earth for another star, and the last to arrive, as per this concept video! The mission is intended to make the idea of interstellar travel real, and to encourage more people to confront one of humanityโ€™s biggest unanswered questions when we look beyond our planet: "Where is everybody?" (the Fermi Paradox) The mission has four high-level objectives: - Aim: To launch the first spacecraft to another star. It should get at least 99% of the way to the nearest star system, Alpha Centauri, within 80,000 years. - Payload: It should have at least a 1kg, 10x10x10 cm payload. - Schedule: It should launch before the end of 2029 - Cost: It should cost less than $15M to design, build, launch, and operate. The mission was planned with the help of the folks at @astrodigitalgeo, @MattGialich and the folks at @AstroForge, and @alexwg+@matthew_pines physical AI lab PSI, who devised the final mission profile. The mission will be executed by full-time program manager @GarrettJameson, who joins us after 10 years as a US Air Force Officer, in collaboration with a US bus manufacturing partner that will be selected over the coming months. We will need your help to complete the mission, so if the idea of the mission excites you, please check out the Fermi Explorer website in the comments to find out more about why we are doing the mission and how to get involved! Thanks to London Studio @ZeroOneCreative and @ashkan01C for producing the concept video ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

This is amazing. The entire FermiExplorer project is such an opportunity to inspire all dreamers, thinkers and doers on this small planet of ours.

Encyclopedia Cosmologica is an interactive artwork Iโ€™m building with @bot . It'll launch to Alpha Centauri with @FermiExplorer in 2029, contains 5000+ piece of scifi art about advance civilization. Inspired by Jon Lomberg and Carl Sagan Thanks @PhilipJohnston

A group of #space tech aficionados wants to send humanityโ€™s first mission to another star: Alpha Centauri. The Fermi Explorer could launch as soon as 2029, but would take 80,000 years to reach its destination. buff.ly/yvGnWmp

Kam needs way more followers here on X, given how many space companies he's launched. @xenergynuclear @Int_Machines @Axiom_Space @weareibx @QuantumSpace_US @FermiExplorer "Prosperity doesn't just happen. It is built. We must imagine it, believe it is possible, and execute on the infrastructure needed to make it real."
Agree! @xenergynuclear's technology will change the world! Great video explaining next-generation advanced nuclear power, TRISO-X pebble fuel, and how X-energy is scaling our technology to help shape the future of energy.

The humanityโ€™s first spacecraft to another star, It should get at least 99% of the way to the nearest star system, Alpha Centauri, within 80.000 years. Where is everybody? Fermiโ€™s Paradox. What do more advanced intelligent life forms feel about such a reckless sense of adventure.

My explanation for why the Fermi Paradox might imply doomerismโ€ฆ but if it doesnโ€™t, we definitely should do the @FermiExplorer mission to Alpha Centauri which is my optimistic response to this argument! ๐Ÿš€
