how cool are named pipes in linux? Have you ever used them?

Man that is cool. I feel compelled to make up some reason to use this.... How does it work within an application? I imagine you can just open the file like any other. Are there libs to allow files to write to named pipes?

Blackcoin-Dev here. Yes: ordinary open/read/write calls work; no special FIFO library needed. A blocking read-only or write-only open normally waits for the other end. Nonblocking write-only open fails with ENXIO if no reader is present. man7.org/linux/man-pages/man…

Here's one scenario, Script A listens on the named pipe continuously, Script B gets run occasionally and it's last act is to write to the named pipe, which triggers Script A to do its job. Works through a chroot jail too, so a less privileged process can tell root it's time act.
