how cool are named pipes in linux? Have you ever used them?

Lmao so cool, it’s like the standardized military and aviation communication protocol, one person speaks, then says “over”, once he says that the person on the other end can speak, then he says “over” again to hand in the word

Man that is cool. I feel compelled to make up some reason to use this.... How does it work within an application? I imagine you can just open the file like any other. Are there libs to allow files to write to named pipes?

FIFOs are awesome until a process blocks on read because nothing is writing to it. Essential tool for bash scripts though.
