I agree with @StuartLock - it is deeply concerning that disadvantaged children will be expected to underperform #softbigotry
I do not think this is something to celebrate and I worry about what it means for poor children in schools that are underperforming: theguardian.com/education/20…

This is terrible. We'd never tell examiners to mark a paper differently by postcode. So why would we grade a school that way? Schools should be assessed on how they deliver for children, regardless of background. Weakening accountability is simply a cover-up for Labour lowering school standards.

“Thank you, Prime Minister.” The message from prisoners released under Labour’s early-release scheme. Criminals are celebrating. The public is carrying the risk of Labour’s prisons crisis.

This is repulsive. The police should be involved, not just the charity commission. Religious beliefs do not give you the right to beat up women.

Helping young people to get jobs, not consigning school leavers to a life on benefits. That’s the right thing for them and the right thing for the country.
🔥EXC: Tories to unveil new ‘tough love’ plan for youth welfare. Under-25s will be told: work or have your benefits cut 🔥 See my interview with Kemi Badenoch on the cover of The Spectator where she outlines plan to ‘put the fair back in welfare’… spectator.com/article/i-get-… Under the plan: 🚨No one will be able to go straight from school onto Universal Credit 🚨Unless you have 6 months of continuous work you will be put on a new Get to Work scheme for 6 months 🚨To get benefits, young people will have to attend a Job Centre, work placement or training every day to learn: interview skills, team work, communication 🚨Those who complete the Get to Work programme will receive a ‘Ready for Work’ Award recording their skills 🚨After six months on Get to Work, young people not working will drop down to a basic Subsistence Allowance 🚨Plan is to make them the responsibility of their parents rather than taxpayers Is this a return to the ‘nasty party’. Badenoch says: ‘‘The people who are going to say “nasty party” will always say it. Quite frankly, the reason why we’re in this mess is because we kept pandering to those people and trying to make them like us. And did it work? No, it didn’t.’

I have today written to the EHRC in relation to their draft technical guidance for schools. The public consultation closes today, 30th September at midnight. You can see my letter below. It is really important that parents take the time to respond and @Transgendertrd have set out a very useful guide to help with responding to the consultation.

The Labour Party want to have a debate about the triple lock because they don’t want to talk about reforming working age welfare. PIP alone is forecast to go up by over £20bn by 2030 and they are doing nothing about it.

Andy Burnham wants to take Britain back to the 1970s, a time of more government control, more trade union control and no economic growth. There is a reason our country took a different course after that decade. Nothing Burnham announced today will do anything to fix Britain’s long-term problems. He had no plan to fix our stagnant economy. No plan to fund defence. No plan to sort out the spiralling welfare bill, beyond more government schemes. His proposal to change the triple lock is already falling apart under scrutiny, and it won’t generate enough savings to fund a nationalised care system for another two decades, which means more tax rises are inevitable. Britain does not need to recreate the politics of the 1970s. It needs a government prepared to take the difficult decisions, back those who work and build businesses, and look confidently to the future.

There was a lot about what Andy Burnham plans to do after the next election, but very little on what he plans to do now…

Proportional representation is an awful voting system, no accountability, no local MP, no way.
NEW: Burnham announces that Labour will have electoral reform in its next manifesto There will be in the meantime a new national commission on electoral reform "We will contest the next election with a manifesto commitment to change the electoral system so that every vote counts and everyone's voices are heard"

If you move to PR and a form of list system, you lose the ability to get rid of politicians at the ballot box. You also effectively end the role of the constituency MP… And you also get nearly permanent coalition governments, whereby politicians cut deals to decide who governs without the public having a say.

Andy Burnham wants to rig the electoral system so that it's harder for us to hold politicians accountable. How can anybody look at this Government and think that what we need is less accountability? We will fight this every step of the way.

This should be common sense. Men should never supervise girls getting changed. Not “wherever possible”. Never. The NSPCC needs to make that clear without delay.
NEW: NSPCC fixes some flaws in latest schools guidance. The guidance now says that, wherever possible, staff supervising children changing should be the same sex as them. Read more: sex-matters.org/posts/update…

Why are the NSPCC doing everything to wriggle around this. It’s simple: men shouldn’t be supervising girls getting changed. The NSPCC’s failure to get this is baffling.
