Imagine being a parent who has a visit from social services for the crime of trying to prevent your teenage daughter from having her healthy breasts cut off on the NHS. The Conversion Practices bill files such parental protection as potentially criminal. dailymail.com/news/article-1…

I am delighted to announce that The Gendered Child, in association with @Transgendertrd, is now finally on its way. It is the summation of many (!) years of research; distilled into a shortish book that will be of use, I hope, to many of you. It will provide the evidence base to combat the hyperbole and misinformation.

When the subject is 'trans' the BBC forgets all they know about safeguarding and the exploitation of children.
The BBC made THREE documentaries about this 15 year old cross-dressing boy. They all state he's an attractive girl. There are hundreds of comments on the BBC's YouTube channel from older men saying 'you're so pretty', 'I've messaged you on Facebook' and 'You are my dream wife'.

"More than half of young people no longer dare to openly address the topics that concern them. What does that say about our society, our democracy, our freedom of speech?" Important message from Austrian Family Minister Claudia Bauer. Thank you @AthenaForumEU.
@GudrunKugler @betti_reiter @EGG_OE Fotos: @ChristianHoegl

"This is not an attack on violence and coercion but on thinking differently." Quite. This is a bill that says parents must hold the same belief as the government. And if you hold and express a different belief your child could report you for it. thecritic.co.uk/the-con-in-t…

Many in the @UKLabour appear to have shut out any other narrative than the one they have been 'coached' on. Their repetitive 'reasoning' and justifications tells me they haven't engaged fully with professionals working at the rock face in this area. Gender dysphoria or trans identity is not a diagnosis or a fixed state- it's more a symptom which it's helpful to understand. Exploratory therapies will be out of the question if there is a threat of criminalisation hanging over a clinician's head. And parents' ability to protect their children will be destroyed if this Conversion practices bill passes. @SexMattersOrg
The draft Conversion Practices Bill would silence therapists, harm children and divide families. That is the warning of our new report, which is based on 30 in-depth interviews with mental-health professionals. Read it here: sex-matters.org/posts/update…

A new report makes a compelling case that the proposed Conversion Practices Bill would undermine legitimate clinical exploration and make it harder for children with complex psychological difficulties to access experienced care. Working with these children is demanding clinical work. It requires experienced clinicians. The exceptionalism in this area is striking. Clinicians routinely explore patients’ beliefs, how they developed and what they mean to them. Why should beliefs about gender be placed beyond exploration? It is already against professional ethics to impose your own beliefs or values on a patient. Exploring someone’s experience does not mean deciding in advance what conclusion they should reach. Whatever assurances the government gives, this unnecessary bill will further discourage experienced clinicians, who are hardly short of work, from taking on these cases. That will make it harder for these children to get the help they need. @SexMattersOrg @matildagosling @ThoughtfulTs @CanSG_org @Transgendertrd @RosieDuffield1 @KemiBadenoch @sueevansprotect @segm_ebm

“I do not understand how, in law, the desires, interests, motivations and viewpoints of a child at 13 become more legally defensible than those of the parent.” Fantastic report by @SexMattersOrg on therapists' views of the Conversion Practices bill. telegraph.co.uk/gift/58afb42…

I spoke to 30 mental-health professionals about the Government’s draft Conversion Practices Bill, the findings of which are published today by @SexMattersOrg. The research identifies many serious problems and unintended consequences: ▶️ The bill's key terms are vague, leaving ethical, evidence-based therapists at risk of conversion-practice accusations. ▶️ Healthcare exemptions don’t work in practice: many skilled professionals would no longer work with young people with gender distress or detransitioners due to the risks involved. ▶️ Complex needs among this population – including trauma, autism, anxiety and difficult family backgrounds – would go unaddressed. ▶️ The bill treats children as adults, and it contains no exemptions for parents who do not want to take an unquestioningly affirmative approach with a trans-identifying child. ▶️ It could lead to more people seeking medicalisation and experiencing later regret, leading to growing numbers of detransitioners. ▶️ Wider risks include the embedding of a move away from evidence-based medicine, the criminalisation of ordinary conversations, vexatious complaints against skilled professionals, extended court backlogs, increasing NHS waiting times, and significant medical and legal costs.

CONVERSION PRACTICES BILL: CRIMINALISING PARENTS, TEACHERS AND PRIESTS? If the Bill becomes law, will the courts be inundated with subjective, even malicious prosecutions or by children prosecuting their parents for refusing to fund binders, puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones? Are such concerns just scaremongering, especially as in the numerous countries in which conversion therapy is banned, prosecution is rare? Is the real threat a powerful chilling effect that will prevents parents, therapists, teachers, social workers and other guardians from speaking frankly? “It makes looking after gay children a crime...this bill causes — and not prevents — gay conversion therapy”, says Dennis Kavanagh. The Bill is both confusing and confused. It is framed as protecting vulnerable people from coercive attempts to change their sexual orientation or gender identity. In reality, it risks criminalising well-intentioned conversations and imprisoning parents, teachers, therapists, religious communities and even friends. Speaking at the Free Speech Union and Genspect’s event in Belfast on Friday, criminal barrister and co-director of the Gay Men’s Network Dennis Kavanagh highlighted that the law already rightly bans abusive conversion practices. This Bill would create new offences that could criminalise important conversations between parents and their gender-confused children. It will inevitably and inadvertently harm the very children it purports to protect by casting “the shadow of criminal law across your kitchen table”. Watch Dennis and the full event below 👇
