Three books on the 2008 crisis, and it's surprising how little they overlap. What they share is outstanding writing—impossible to put down. I wonder what @gilliantett, @andrewrsorkin, and Michael Lewis will write about the next crisis. A silver lining of what lies ahead.

SOX and POU are crucial Transcription Factors in animal development, believed to be innovations. We found them in unicellular relatives of animals. And hold tight, you can use a choanoflagellate 🦠 SOX gene to make a full chimeric 🐁 ! Read more here: rdcu.be/d0dPN 1/6

Does 6mA exist in eukaryotic DNA? This is our take on this dispute: yes it does, and can be very abundant, but mostly correlates with presence of the MT-A70 writer AMT1. Then, 6mA is associated with transcriptionally-permissive chromatin (H3K4me3) 1/6: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

In the current climate of disinformation and woolly thinking, stating the obvious in simple and direct language is necessary and essential. Sir Paul Nurse is very good at saying what needs to be said. He once told David Cameron that only a Neanderthal would cut the science budget. This is true, since knowledge, education and research are fundamental to our future. He’s also of course a great scientist. I’m delighted he’s retuning as President of the Royal Society.
We are happy to announce that Sir Paul Nurse has been confirmed as President Elect of the Royal Society: royalsociety.org/news/2024/1…
