London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which charges drivers of the most polluting vehicles, has been linked to improved lung health in children in a major new study.
Researchers at Queen Mary University found primary school children in London had significantly smaller lungs than children in Luton in 2018.
But five years later, after the introduction of the low emission zone, the difference in lung health between the two groups had largely disappeared.
