I hope the promotional campaigns don’t impact the BdO voting too much. Wishful thinking most likely because it’s always been a popularity contest, but the football should speak loudest.

And Kane is that player. Fourteen straight months of excellence. If that’s made to seem less than it was by electioneering then that will be a great shame.

Just outstanding from England tonight. Bellingham, Saka and Gordon all brilliant, Kane at the heart of it.

The docuseries and eventual movie will be incredible.
It was a seemingly innocuous email, sent on a Wednesday morning in January 2017, that started everything. Arriving in the inbox of a senior official at Manchester City, it appeared to have been sent by an employee from European football’s governing body, UEFA, and contained a link to a financial compliance report. The City official clicked the download button. That was all it took. It was not a genuine email from UEFA but a successful phishing attempt by Portuguese hacker and activist Rui Pinto. City’s servers were breached, allowing Pinto to retrieve thousands of emails and documents from the club’s systems. This week, almost 10 years on from Pinto’s first email, the Premier League announced that an independent panel had found City guilty of all but one of the charges against them, as The Athletic first revealed last Friday. 📝 @jwhitey98: nyti.ms/4z5sgoL

The human cost of reporting on Man City’s cheating for 15 years. It’s on the Mail website today and will be in the MoS paper tomorrow (Sunday) but they backed my reporting 100%. That reporting continues on my Substack. Google it for details. dailymail.com/sport/football…

Will there be a flow chart or sorting hat? I feel sorry for the poor sods who are essentially the ‘German Everton’.
Don’t worry. I’ll help you all find a nice German club, 50+1 compliant, once this is all over.

I preferred football when it was an escape from this stuff.
Exclusive with @AlexDooler @DNair5 UAE officials have warned the UK government that the severity of Man City’s punishment could undermine their appetite for future grand-scale commitments in Britain, according to people familiar with the matter They consider the Premier League’s actions to have an influence on the bilateral state relationship, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing undisclosed information The extraordinary pressure comes after Andy Burnham faced criticism, including from within government, for saying Man City’s Abu Dhabi owners should not be disqualified specifically because of the investment they bring to Britain bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

A really good night for Florian Wirtz. Scored, assisted, created all sorts of chances and spent the evening skipping around the penalty box, teasing the Serbian defence. His best game for club or country in a very long time. Caveats are clear. Serbia have been quite disappointing and the game has had a pace that suited him, but he’s been Germany’s best player IMO.

NEW Downing Street issues fresh statement on Man City case in an attempt to clarify Andy Burnham's comments to @ChrisMasonBBC yesterday A No 10 spokesperson said: “As the Prime Minister made clear, the initial judgement is serious and there can’t be any suggestion that anyone is above the rules. He also stressed that it is an ongoing independent process. It is essential that it is allowed to run its course and the outcome respected. “If wrongdoing is established, those responsible should face the appropriate consequences.“

Astonishing own goal so early into his tenure. Another crook who forgot themselves.

Celtic’s Mika Baur gets a hug from Klopp, then a kiss on the cheek, and now he’s on to make his Germany debut.

Florian Wirtz scores for Germany and it’s difficult to name a player who needed that moment more. Sweet touch and shimmy, nice finish.
