Tom McCarthy’s A STATEMENT is consistently entertaining, never once feeling like a lecture despite mostly coming direct from transcripts of a climate conference in 1980. Pacing and dialogue are equally snappy, and its conclusions are powerful. Turturro the MVP of a stacked cast.

I always hate when people use “you just didn’t get it” when someone is on the negative side of a divisive movie.
You can fully “GET IT” and still not be on board with what “IT” was or how it was executed.

A big thing I hate about the film festival culture. It feels like it’s turned film into a competitive sport where everyone is just competing/bragging about how many movies they can see in one day (which my hot take is 4-5 back to back is not a good thing) or who’s seen it FIRST.
An observation I have with “film twitter” in general is that you really shouldn’t strive to be the “first” to see a movie. (I am not calling out anyone specifically either.) Just make your eventual coverage as good as it can be. I know there’s more nuance to it but still..

Let’s also not forget the academy barely 10 years ago ALMOST handed Stallone himself an Oscar for playing Rocky again in Creed. There’s clearly still love for the character within that org.
It’s likely I Play Rocky will break into Best Picture at the Oscars, and if that happens it would be really weird if Anthony Ippolito missed in Best Actor. His uncanny performance as Sylvester Stallone is the best thing about the movie, so he might come on stronger than we think.
