In a new article at @WarFrontsWeekly I have something to say about the recent revelations on the Ukraine's African adventure and the Malian one in particular. I personally don't like it as you know - and say why. My opinion below. fronts.co/article/ukraines-i…

The North Caucasus has long been Russia's most restive region. While Putin successfully crushed the decades-long insurgency there, how likely is renewed unrest there in the event of any new mobilization? My latest for @WarFrontsWeekly: fronts.co/article/when-there…

In new analysis published on @WarFrontsWeekly yesterday,I am talking about the last crisis caused by the unprecedented armed rebellion on Saturday. Clear winners - Islamic State, to the lesser extent JNIM. Tactical - Russia, doubtful however if strategic. fronts.co/article/nigers-reb…

Ukraine is finalising a drone deal with Germany, Zelenskyy says, covering the joint development of various types of drones, missiles and other related software. The deal builds on existing cooperation that includes Germany's funding for 50,000 Shrike attack drones and 15,000 Strila interceptor drones for Ukraine designed to counter Shahed-type drones. - Reuters

President @ZelenskyyUa has officially announced the start of the operation known as M&Ms, which we reported on last month @TheAtlantic. One of the sources who initially told me about the plan confirmed to me this morning that this is it. theatlantic.com/national-sec…
It was from Russia that the first missiles and the first drones came, and they crossed our country’s border from Russian airspace. This escalation cannot and will not remain confined to Ukrainian territory. Today, we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, and everyone who still uses Russia’s key airports: Russian airspace is becoming completely unsafe. Ukraine does not threaten civilian aviation as such – not a single civilian aircraft. There will simply be drones in Russia’s skies on a scale that has to be taken into account. Although the Russian authorities are not properly informing people about this, Russian airspace will effectively be closing – the war started by Russia is closing its skies. We in Ukraine do not want innocent lives to be lost. That is why we are warning our partners: the safe days in Russia’s skies are over. It is important that this is heard by the ambassadors of countries represented here in Ukraine, as well as by ambassadors working in Moscow. Every one of them knows exactly what Russia’s war means for our country and our people, and they must convey this information to their capitals. It is important that the airlines currently flying to airports primarily in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other key destinations in Russia hear this as well. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and our other institutions will provide international organizations with full information about the dangers in Russian airspace. Drone-infested skies are no place for civilian aviation. From the evening address.

The carrier is expected to arrive in Indonesia between September 15 and 20, before officially entering service on September 25 as KRI Gajah Mada. Transferred to Indonesia free of charge by Italy, the Garibaldi will become the Indonesian Navy’s first aircraft carrier, representing a major milestone in the country’s naval capabilities.

Good analysis of IDF’s apparent lack of preparation for modern drone-enabled ground engagements.

The Ethiopian federal government and TPLF have engaged in the first sustained period of military confrontation in the Tigray region since the end of the Tigray war in 2022 due to the breakdown of their peace agreement. Disparate anti–federal government factions have offered support to the TPLF, although preexisting tensions and strategic differences will likely inhibit the formation of a coherent regional alliance. 🧵⬇️

This morning, a merchant vessel was hit and sank in Romania’s exclusive economic zone, roughly 15 nautical miles off the Romanian coast by what appears to be a new type of Russian drone. The crew members, eight Ukrainians and four Azerbaijanis, were rescued by the Romanian Navy.
