I wanted to sell AI voices in my parenting app as a monthly plan. The research said no, at least with the current design.
・833 of the app's 999 example sentences include the child's name (83%). Names differ per user, so the audio can't be generated ahead of time
・Google Play says a subscription needs ongoing, repeated value. A one-time perk should be an in-app item instead
・Once you sell anything, your address is shown, even as an individual developer
The surprise: cost wasn't the blocker. All the text is about 180,000 characters, likely within a text-to-speech free tier.
So instead, users can now pick from the voices already on their phone, for free. A one-time purchase is still on the table.
Before building a subscription, read the store's rules. They decided this one, not the tech.
