the current way cloud agents are done is wrong i dont want new ephemeral sandboxes per PR (chores) i want a persistent machine with creds and context that i run agents and create PRs on (primary work)

this is to say i've recently churned off both local and cloud agents by biting into the Codex + ssh to devbox pill i was initially skeptical, but the product is pretty damn good. i can use my phone and computer and do all work on that devbox

We just made it possible to use any persistent machine you want
Introducing Devin Outposts: run Devin on any machine. Your Mac mini, a GPU box in your lab, a VM inside your private network, or a Kubernetes cluster next to your internal services.

Disagree Ephemeral sandboxes solve ever growing lists of problems especially as your work pair and team size grow

i see, i don't actually "care" how it's necessarily implemented, just that it achieves the ux of a devbox. does that make sense?

i dont think these are exclusive, having configurable environments and snapshotting them means you can spin up as many identical dev boxes as you need.

I still haven't fully figured out my preferences for all of this, sometimes I get so happy for everything to be local and at other times I just want to walk around and trigger agents over Slack 😅 don't think I have a preference about sandboxing, as long as it's fast

its tempting but it's also a security nightmare if it's an actual always-on stateful box with git etc in it you kinda want the _semantics_ of it so that it feels like a stateful 1-piece but isolated harness, isolated git operations, and compute itself frequently recycled so that it doesn't accumulate filesystem drift outside of the data explicitly meant for preservation

You can do this with @Letta_AI by running `letta server` on any machine - most of our dev work is done on a shared mac mini sitting in our office docs.letta.com/platform/comp…

This model works well for certain types of development work, including shipping to production. Looking to add two engineers, one focused on going to market and one infrastructure and ops.
Everyone can make software from any device, anywhere, any time

Hey! This is how amika.dev works. The sandboxes can be ephemeral or persistent Can control them over web, CLI, API, or from your favorite editor We're polishing it a lot. Would love to get your feedback if you try it out! Sign up has a free trial x.lingyaoai.com/i/status/2080006438261…

I don’t think you actually want that given where things are trending. your single machine will become resource constrained as well as accumulate drift. we have what you described: a cloud dev desktop, and they suck lol assuming agents continue to progress, you will have hundreds of sessions running simultaneously and a single host would become a bottleneck. cloud agents in their current vm per session allow you a reproducible, scalable solution. A task needs 8x B200s? Spin up the respective hardware.

if creds and context are properly loaded into the sandboxes what's the practical difference

sounds like you just need good persistent sandboxes, spawn as many as you want, keep them alive for as long as you want

hard agree - that's why so many companies are rolling their own. tons of this comes down to enterprise-level configurability and customizability nobody has yet

Have you tried remote ssh in cursor? Works with Remote Control too

how is this different from a VPS? Whole purpose of cloud agent is full isolation + scalability. If you can build ephemeral environments quickly, with all your creds imported on startup you are reaching the same level of comfort with full isolation of changes Persistency achieved with snapshots
