this is to say i've recently churned off both local and cloud agents by biting into the Codex + ssh to devbox pill i was initially skeptical, but the product is pretty damn good. i can use my phone and computer and do all work on that devbox
the current way cloud agents are done is wrong i dont want new ephemeral sandboxes per PR (chores) i want a persistent machine with creds and context that i run agents and create PRs on (primary work)

i just bought a mac mini and planning on using that exactly for this use case (also, codex app has ssh? do you mean gui as in having to use the terminal or something else)

same here. i am using my own gui (optimized around my git/opensource work) and it is soo good to use it in a server. my laptop is sitting in the corner for two days. i can test everything on a server and validate changes and code through my phone.

How do you give the agent on the devbox a clean slate? Run VMs on it, or just fork everything off worktrees? We're building something to let teams turn computers they own into cloud devboxes for this exact purpose, so I def appreciate any feedback on what's good / bad about your current setup

Honestly just bought a new Mac for codex / Claude and this solves the problem pretty well. Especially useful since it can also do iOS app dev and release builds too

we need one-click devbox, should grab your .env, .claude and current repo, and drops you into claude code

hosted acp gateway with local agent bridge + durable session history + multiple devices

yeah this is the way
I've been doing this with codex app server on some H200s and its been a amazing productivity boost. You get much more granularity in controlling the environment and generally just speeds up iteration cycles compared to launching clusters for every tiny experiment.

Same but Codex kinda toasts my Mac so I run the harness on the devbox and manage with cmux

What’s your setup? Do you just rent a VPS?

It's taken a lot of work but we do this with DevPods + EKS. We also now connect per dev shared drives so you can start and pick up sessions on any of your pods, and share any other days needed, regardless of which pod the agent is executing on.

i love that too, finally able to move off VSCode Remote SSH. What other feature do you like in codex?

I have a Mac Studio for this. I ssh or use jump desktop. Codex app computer use is so crazy good
