The Last Dangerous Job - Where Robots should go first OI-010

The most compelling case for general purpose robots may not be that they can do our jobs. It may be that they can do the jobs we should never have had to do in the first place. Every industrial

My buddy who works reasonably high up in Open AI told me that it seems like Altman has aged 10 years in the last 6 months. I wonder what could be so stressful for him :^)

I hear it’s an app for Dots. Like the grok bot app or the muse app. Which is interesting as the whole point of the screenless devices they are building is to get out of Apples walled garden.

Future AI devices will require substantially richer context than conversational memory. We are going to witness the dawn of the Personal Ontology.

You’ve probably noticed it’s all a cycle. Today I criticize OpenAI. Tomorrow I criticize Anthropic. I cancel ChatGPT and move to Claude, then cancel Claude and move back to ChatGPT. It’s normal, friends. Don’t take it personally. This is how we keep these companies under pressure and push them to actually improve.

I want to be honest about how we’ve got to a place where British billpayers are paying some of the highest energy costs in Europe. Over the past 40 years, we’ve given up control of our necessities, outsourced our essentials and privatised the basics. Water, transport, housing. And of course, energy. Now the public are paying the price. We haven’t invested in the infrastructure we need. Conflict overseas has pushed up energy costs and it’s hurting our businesses and families. That’s why we need to take back greater control of our energy system. This week, I announced Great British Grid, which will speed up connections and push down bills. We’re also giving mayors, local leaders and communities a stronger role. With funding for People’s Power projects, communities will be able to build solar panels on libraries and town halls, hydro schemes in rivers or publicly owned windfarms on local land. But it’s not just energy we need stronger public control over. It’s also water, housing, transport and care. So we’re repealing the ban on public ownership of water companies. We’re building more council homes than this country has seen since the end of World War Two. We’re reforming the leasehold system so families aren’t squeezed for every penny. And we’re opening up home ownership for first time buyers who can’t rely on the bank of mum and dad. This week I also announced my determination to introduce a National Care Service, to put people above profit and to give pensioners peace of mind. Together, we’ll rewire the country from top to bottom so that it works for all people in all places. That is the only way to put Britain back on the right path. It’s the only way to put power back in people’s hands. And it’s the only way we will bring hope again.

You’re really on a downer with them at the moment. I’m actually Bullish, The three devices are coming soon, I wouldn’t be surprised If we see Teaser of one of them next week. Sol 6.1 is a wonderful everyday workhorse, dots have real Potential, it’s Looking much brighter for them then it was before Devday.

im worried..one day we wake up and see chat mode is gone/merged to work mode and then we are forced to use usage limits. it feels like @openai does not care about chat mode and is intentionally trying to burry it away. :( its been while since new update came to chat mode, i mainly payed pro bcs chat is basiclly unlimted #chatgpt @kundan2510 @ajambrosino @victornunez @reach_vb @JustinBleuel

Since you’re buying more compute anyway, please make Dots available to Plus users too. Plus users are literally some of OpenAI’s most important customers, because that’s the tier where new subscribers decide whether it’s worth moving up to the more expensive plans.
Replying to @atelicinvest
Pretty bad for the GPUs. We’re going to need more compute

I don’t think they come to Plus anytime soon. It would an inference financial disaster. OpenAI rely on a “Human Rate Limiter” you type the prompt you think about the result, it makes the token consumption extremely predictable. All of that goes out of the window with always on proactive agents working continuously in the background. They would have to be limited hard like GrokBot which then eats into plus users codex inference. That’s before we even recognise that each of these accounts needs its own independent cloud computer and sandbox. Plus is a cash cow as it’s 90% people just chatting. Bring Dot into it and it turns into a financial disaster very quickly.

OpenAI folks reading this, please, if Chat, Work, and Codex are eventually getting merged, make the routing actually smart. The model should know when to be conversational, when to be professional, and when to switch modes based on context. Or just let us customize that behavior ourselves. I really don’t want another mess like the GPT-5 launch, where the routing felt completely broken and the model kept choosing the wrong behavior for the task. Thank you so much, guys.

They aren’t getting merged, the unit economics and overheads of the “Go” plan alone make no sense. You would have some guy asking for a recipe trigering agentic logic and the inference costs on a $5 plan would go sky high. If you try and keep “Go” or even “Plus” separate which is what it would take for the numbers to work. there would be a huge PR backlash.

I really don't see why agents and chat needs to be separate features. I say, unify all AI interfaces! The agent can be agentic when needed, or chatty when the situation calls for it.
Once you use a modern harness (e.g., Grok Bot, Cursor Projects), you just can't go back to Chats. Traditional LLM chats are dead, they had a good run from 2022-2026!

🚨 MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT: YouTube will start prioritizing original content and reducing re-uploads (RIP clipping) YouTube has just announced one of the most impactful changes to its short-form algorithm. Its recommendation systems (the algorithm) will start to further prioritize original content and reduce the reach of content re-uploaded from other creators without adding anything of your own. They highlight this shift toward originality, where channels with primarily re-uploaded content will see less distribution within the Shorts feed. It also seems like they’re really trying to put the focus on content with real value, while highlighting that YouTube doesn’t want as many “minor technical edits” or “template-based” changes. Which is basically all that clipping was in this industry. Overall, while this will piss off some people whose entire careers were built on the premise of other people’s content (mostly clippers), the change itself is amazing and will finally address the overall quality issue we’ve been seeing.
