Day 138 —
@bitrig x
@ycombinator hackathon was a great experience. We built Lumi Lab.
For this hackathon, we wanted to build something that truly used the iPhone Duo hinge — not just two screens, not just a split UI, but something where the hinge itself mattered.
So we started looking at math and physics concepts that are hard to understand on a flat 2D screen.
That became Lumi Lab: a Duo-native STEM learning prototype where the hinge angle becomes the actual physical angle in the lesson.
Instead of teaching angle-based physics through diagrams on a flat screen, the student physically changes the hinge angle and the concept updates live.
We built lessons for Snell’s Law, reflection, and projectile motion.
For example, in Snell’s Law, changing the hinge angle changes the incident angle, and the refracted ray updates live. The student is not just reading the formula anymore. They are physically moving the concept.
We did not make the finals, but I am honestly proud of what the team built.
Huge thank you to
@xing_ivy,
@samshanmukh, and Musa. Could not have done it without you.
We did not win this one. But we built something I actually believe in. And we had a blast.
