Put out a new Butler's Pantry episode, showing how to use GitButler to run several agents in one working directory with parallel branches. If you use agents and solve parallelism with worktrees, check this out because it's so much nicer.

Got myself an OpenAI Dot and its pretty cool. I named him hasi and made him generate a black cat sprite. Fills me with joy to use.

I agree with this. There is so much interesting work that is unlocked and pushed forward because creating code is easier. Some of it may not be how the best of us would have hand crafted it, but sometimes it’s better and always its faster. Most interesting is the software that would never have been written because there was no surety that it would be interesting .
My timeline is full of new apps, interesting UI, beautiful art, deep, groundbreaking code work. I’m finding and fixing bugs I would’ve never and putting more effort than ever into properly testing features and apps. I think you’re looking at it wrong if you only see decline.

They’ve really changed their style since the last album.

In Dusseldorf for the Backstreet Boys concert and wow. Never seen more 50 year olds so excited.

God, I made the mistake of buying train tickets in Germany, thinking that DB could actually get us somewhere. What a stupid, stupid idea.

Of course now the train is not only 3 hours late, but they stop in Dortmund rather than Dusseldorf. So close…

Did you know that if you are American living in Germany with an OpenAI Pro account and you create a Dot via VPN (because its not available in EU), then pause the VPN they will REMOVE the dot from your sidebar. If you use a Dot, remember this before you travel outside the US.

Found yet another amazing use case for Agents - taking a branch of hand made commits and properly submitting it to the Git mailing list. Previously I used GitGitGadget, which is great but a little strange. Turns out agents are amazing at using format-patch, send-mail, am etc

Ah, that fun feeling when you wake up in the morning in Berlin and realize that people have been arguing in the comments on HN over an article you wrote while you slept. And most of them were directly addressed in the article they're commenting on that they clearly didn't read.

Working on the Git Merge conf videos and watching @nasamuffin's excellent SHA-256 talk, I was again filled with the dread of Git 3.0's upcoming hashing default switch. I wrote up why I feel this is a huge mistake and why I think it shouldn't be done: blog.gitbutler.com/git-3-sha…

“and that country will tax me. no matter who I am, where I live or what other country I am a tax resident in now…” [song begins..] “and Im proud to be an American… where at least I know I’m free…”
SECRETARY RUBIO on AMERICA.GOV: A United States passport says something very simple. It says that anywhere in the world, "I am an American and my country stands behind me."

Telling my German wife that I’m somewhat familiar with Wagner operas mainly because of Bugs Bunny and the response is understandably confused. How does one explain “kill da wabbit”?

Well, for a simple motion video prompt, Opus 5.5 did a pretty fun job explaining @gitbutler parallel branches. Color me impressed.

I agree with this but I take it father. I think every option in the left sidebar of chat apps (Codex, Claude, Cursor…) will disappear. Work/ChatGPT, Astra/Sol/local models - all better for a small model to route/decide locally than you.
I'm getting increasingly tired of thinking about reasoning effort levels. In the near future, models will reason as much or as little as needed, and we'll feel silly for exposing 5+ options in a dropdown.

Berlin is one of the worst places on earth to start a company. We've been trying for 4+ months to get any internet installed. Telekom just cancels. Everyone else has to use their infra, so they cancel too. I will pay anyone, personally, €10k to get this fucking done for us.

It's also not lost on me that the solution that most of the commenters on this thread have to German issues is "use an American product that bypasses all of that"
