The zilker park grass issue is very tough for dems Divides some of their key factions Much like the 'data center' issue for republicans
JUST IN: Radio DeeJay @Andylanger melts down about the mud situation at ACL and thinks it could lead to Republicans taking over the City Council (????) Someone make sure he goes to sleep soon, been a long weekend it appears. 🤡

Some initial data Austin released from the 'No Wrong Door' program that mayor is hyping up ( program that seeks focused interventions & alternatives to jail for repeat offenders esp w/ mental health issue ) I guess this is progress, but doesn't exactly seem like a panacea

The Big NGO contract on the next Austin city council agenda was quietly dropped from the agenda yesterday, no explanation given.... Is the #txlege house oversight hearing having some impact?

Replying to @fox7austin
All of these men were out of jail a day later. Reginald is in jail only because he was re-arrested. You don't care to mention that.
APD decides to clean up the area behind Barton Springs pool just in time for @aclfestival (why regular families using the park weren't worthy of the clean up is a separate story). APD posts arrests with some truly frightening pictures. Press lazily but dutifully reprints the press release. Leaves out the fact that all of the arrestees were out before APD announced their arrests. What's the cliche I'm reaching for?

Yes , if we are going to build project connect, it should go to the airport The leg north of downtown to 38th street provides no value cause it doesn't go far enough north, re-direct that money to an Airport leg ( if UT wants to fund that northern stretch they can chip in )
90% of these folks would choose a direct rail connection downtown

The Statesman won the 'Carmage Walls Prize' last week for its articles on the city claiming immunity & not paying people when they had property damaged by APD (i.e. the Shields case) Shout-out to @JenRobichaux and others who raised awareness about this statesman.com/news/local/art…

It honestly sounds like Mamdani would vote for Prop I if he lived in Austin Auditing for waste, stopping with the consultants is a bipartisan issue!
Mayor @ZohranKMamdani on cutting down wasteful budget spending: There was waste. There's also this addiction to consulting. When we looked at the city budget, we realized we had to save money through efficiency. So we set up something called 'Chief Savings Officers' in every department. We saved $94M just by renegotiating contracts to a better rate. We saved $24M by letting go of unused office space. I believe that government has to be the most excellent, efficient version of itself to be worthy of people's trust.

Dallas councilwoman @caraathome points out the BIG problem with relying on NGOs to provide government services. They are immune from FOIA public info requests. There is no way for reporters or public to audit these for waste, fraud, and abuse. We just have to trust the high level numbers they report to the city. I have hit this problem many times in my investigations.

The Zilker Botanical Garden is under full city of Austin management starting Thursday. Up until now, the city has only been in charge of maintenance of grounds. kut.org/austin/2026-09-30/au…
