Outreach to the Amish community needs to be sustained and ongoing. They're historically undervaccinated but not, on the whole, antivax. They've always cooperated with public health measures. It's the dumbasses who refuse to vaccinate that are at fault

NEWS: Senate Republicans caught LYING in an attack ad claiming Sherrod Brown supports "irreversible surgery on kids like me," when the woman in the ad isn't from Ohio and didn't have surgery until she was 19 in Texas. Gender surgery on minors is already illegal in Ohio, but Republicans would rather lie to voters about a fake culture war than talk about Trump's economy. Pathetic.

My friend has surgery coming up in a few weeks and did not take the Covid vaccine. She is genuinely worried that, if a transfusion becomes necessary, she could receive blood from a vaccinated donor, and she is also concerned the hospital might administer a flu or COVID vaccine during her stay. Those fears are strong enough that they are causing some people to delay or avoid procedures they actually need. She is not alone, these are legitimate fears that many of us have.

Tbf tho - her entire family was unvaccinated. Outreach to the Amish really needs to be continuous - with more and more "English" refusing to vaccinate their kids, the Amish are more vulnerable than ever

She would then have to depend upon the vaccination status of everyone around her. And THEIR failure to get vaccinated is the reason she got measles and died. The virus is extremely easy to spread. What a horror. Bad enough to find yourself with acute leukemia at age 20. 2/2

If she was treated with chemotherapy and steroids, it sounds more like acute lymphoid leukemia rather than the more common acute myeloid leukemia. Both would immunosuppress her but the former more-so. Even if she were vaccinated for measles she could still get it. 1/n
