seems like Dots haven’t quite received the welcome OAI was expecting
I’m maybe in the minority here but I’ve been loving it
the fact that it keeps all the context and proactively brings me things that deserve my attention the moment it’s needed is pretty neat
I also like that fact that it’s single threaded - feels like I’m texting another person of sorts and that interaction mental model feels pretty natural to me. I think of Dots as my AI buddy. It’s nice to not have to worry about thread management here.
I like that it’s got my ChatGPT memories baked in. I like that it can spawn Codex threads in the right project to check or do something for me. I like that it’s got its own computer in the cloud and isn’t completely reliant on my laptop being available all the time
obviously it’s not perfect:
- it’s slow
- computer use reliability isn’t quite there yet
- mobile app conversations with Dot hasn’t caught up to the desktop app and this breaks the user experience. things like approval cards and input cards show on the desktop but not on mobile and sometimes I’d ask my dot to do something from the mobile app and I’d be so confused as to what’s taking it so long to do when in reality it’s waiting on an input from me, but that input needs to happen on desktop
- when I give it a task, I would like for my dot to be more verbose and give me more updates about what’s it’s doing or thinking - I would like to be kept more in the loop
- I’d like the transcript of the calls I have with my dot to be accessible in the thread if I need to refer back to something we discussed
- I know it’s coming but I’d like to create multiple Dots and have some of them be specialists for certain things
I’m sure we’re gonna see some rapid improvements to this everyday. OAI has a pretty strong history of “let’s just put it out there and work on it obsessively until it’s world class” - like the ChatGPT app
the future is exciting!
