A light-blue Waymo collided with a car outside a Costco, then continued driving as if nothing happened. The struck car makes a left turn and drives away moments later. trib.al/61Q8NEU
Community note
The Waymo in question continued driving until it found a wider lane to pull over as to not impede traffic. yahoo.com/news/us/articl…

Um Don't pull out of a parking lot in front of an oncoming car? Waymos have cams all around them. I'm sure they contacted the culprit.

We got to get the idiots off the street, not the robots.
Every Waymo crash: Idiot human driver does something stupid. Robot driver gets hit.

any human driver would do much worse in this scenario

There should be regular tests for drivers to prevent stupid acts like this. Guess this one lost car and license and will become a rider now.. that's better for everyone

Lazy journalism
I no longer take my news from those media accounts A “light blue” is a lazy wording for Ojai And it didn’t continue driving. It did until it can safely stop. Also it’s not the one that collided It’s the human enduring that ran into the Waymo.

Waymo 100x better at driving than 99% of Angelenos

The dumb ass shouldn’t have pulled out until it’s clear! Does Waymo get charged with a hit n run?

I think i will Blindly pull into the street of on-coming traffic instead of waiting 5 seconds for another car to clear my view. 100% Lady impatient , not paying attention and definitely not her first accident or close-call.

Those new light blue Waymo's are indestructable - the other cars front is totally crushes but see no damage on Waymo. Also Waymo did swerve but not into the other lane - very safe behavior - human drivers would probably over react and smash into oncoming traffic.

Well it wasn’t the Waymo’s fault so why stop?

The Waymo was not at fault. You can’t pull out in from of a car and then blame the other car ffs

Waymo had the right-of-way. The car pulling outs fault.

As much as I despise self driving cars, a human probably would have hit them too. Strictly speaking they failed to yield the right of way, making them at fault for the collision.

Waymo needs a ‘idiot driver’ sensor.

what it should have done is pull over and scream at the dipshit pulling out of costco without looking and then sue the shit out of her

Not even what happened. The waymo moved out of oncoming traffic, pulls over and waits for the other driver to come exchange information. The other driver left the scene

Im surprised. The tabloid California post made an inaccurate headline. The waymo pulled over at a wider part of the road so that it wouldn't be unsafe to stop and block all traffic

This is just very misleading.🙂 The video was slowed down so much to make it appeared the other vehicle waited after the collision. In fact the other vehicle drove off right the way and the Waymo pulled over after it found a spot around the bend.

I had an accident exactly like this once, pulling out of a lot with my view to the left blocked, and I went when I should’ve inched and waited more. 100% on the other car (and me), you just gotta be patient when your view is blocked like this.

There programmed to find a safe spot to park so it probably parked a little bit down the road, but if they do leave, you just call the cops they contact Waymo and Waymo will give them all the insurance information and recordings of the incident from the Waymo

Waymo needs more sensors. Or… if it had an end to end trained ai that can anticipate these types of events it would be more cautious. Anyone building that by chance?

What was the waymo supposed to do? Stop and give a statement? The guy pulling into traffic didn't look and was clearly at fault.
