I started buying
$RKLB in 2021 around $15-$16 (people forget it was that high back then).
It promptly began tanking, but the more I read about the company the more I became enamored with it.
A market cap of a few billion for a company with dozens of successful orbital launches and a growing business line making components and satellites for other space companies?
It seemed WAY too cheap and just didn’t make sense to me, so I kept buying.
Transparently, my salary at the time was something like $80k - I didn’t have endless amount of cash to throw at whatever stock I wanted, but I was able to save and had some disposable income to take “riskier” investments with.
By the time
$RKLB had fallen to the $4 range I already had a couple thousand shares and it was tough for me to get my average cost down, but I just kept buying.
I was probably down 50% or more for over 12 months during that time.
Understand, I wasn’t on twitter at all and I wasn’t nearly as focused on investing as I am now. I was in my own little bubble with a few friends that were into stocks and we’d share some ideas, etc., but I wasn’t constantly reading people trashing the stock everyday - not sure if that was happening back then but it certainly happens now with stocks like
$ONDS and others.
Time passed.
In 2024 the stock began to recover.
I realized that out of all the names in my portfolio, I had the highest conviction in
$RKLB and even other popular names like those in the Mag 7 had less clear futures to me.
$RKLB was still very cheap and the opportunity I saw laid out before me seemed life changing, so I ended up selling almost everything else I had and rolling it all into
$RKLB.
I didn’t even really see it as a risk. The stock seemed to be sitting at a multi-year floor and I had no doubt it would at least double. I couldn’t say the same for other names in my portfolio.
I ended up having 5,125 shares at something like a $9.75 cost basis (approximately).
The rest is history.
I’ve trimmed 1,000 shares since then but my conviction has only grown stronger! Just want to secure some profits chase other great opportunities.
(Not financial advice 😅)
