Starting today, LA County ties for the highest baseline county sales tax rate in the entire United States at 10.25%. Lancaster and Palmdale, where many of my friends and people I know already struggle to make ends meet, sales tax is now 11.75% - the highest in the state. I still just don’t understand how we keep voting to continuously give more & more money to our local government while services continue to get worse, our politicians continue to give more of our money to their friends, and fraud goes unchecked. How does this actually help everyday Angelenos who have both mom and dad working and sometimes it’s not even enough to support their families? This is not helping our kids. It’s not making schools better. It’s not making roads better or helping with public transit. It’s not making us safer. It’s not making housing more affordable, or food, or gas or utilities. Why do we keep voting for more and more tax increases and worse and worse politicians?

Let’s do a sales tax ballot measure! Cap it at 8% or something less absurd

They should thank @GavinNewsom for their 11% average sales tax in LA County and surrounding areas. Florida average sales tax statewide 7.02%! Gotta love Democrat politicians.

It'll get worse before it gets better in LA as the electorate is about to vote in Raman. So LA is screwed. Maybe CA gets a gop gov, if becerra the state is a write off.

@grok how much of LA County’s sales tax is a CA State tax? Let’s make sure credit is given where credit is due.

Before anyone starts complaining, ask yourself if you live in an LA County district other than Barger, and voted for the current supervisor. Because those supervisors are responsible for this. Barger is the only sane supervisor at LABOS and voted against it.

This is the actual wording on the ballot. Such sleezebags. Shall the measure to help our community address severe federal cuts enacted by the President and Congress; reduce the loss of essential services, including healthcare for County residents; reduce the risk of closing the County's four public hospitals and numerous clinics, and significant healthcare provider layoffs and other service cuts by enacting a 1/2 percent (0.5%) general sales tax for 5 years, generating approximately $1 billion annually, with independent audits, be adopted?

What if it turns out it wasn't actually voted by voters? The raised sales tax failed in most places - except LA County. Two things were losing on election day that year: the sales tax hike and Nithya Raman. Yet in the ensuing weeks, both of them found enough votes to "win". Somehow.

Unpopular opinion: it's the voters. The voters in Los Angeles and California are just stupid and don't understand that they're hurting themselves. It's not the politicians who need to get smart. It's the voters. And nothing will improve until we acknowledge that.

Remember Los Angeles voter registration shows that Democrats outnumber the Republicans 2 to one Democrats will vote for whatever they are told to vote for If they’re told to vote for a higher tax, they will vote for that higher tax 100% of the time

Guaranteed nobody in Palmdale or Lancaster voted for this, now we're at 11.75% - highest in the nation, and driving across town is an off-roading experience!!

A two or three percent sales tax would likely provide all the public service ordinary citizens require. The rest funds corruption.

The Fraud, Waste and Abuse is inside the government itself and it goes unchecked. People vote the same way every time and expect different results. Nothing has gotten better under the same type of leadership. Can deep blue cities and states ever have a fair chance to be redeemed?

Fundamentally, it's because beneficiaries of gov't spending (unions, bureaucrats, NGOs) know increasing taxes funds their careers. They'll vote for a worse politicians who promise them more. Under this perverse system, it won't stop until they run out of other people's money.

Move out of these cities in protest and force them into bankruptcy. This is the only way they will learn. If you can move then buy nothing in these cities. They need to lose this revenue to feel the voice of the people.

In @LakewoodCA we were manipulated to raise the sales tax a few years ago. The city told everyone if we didn't approve the tax increase, the county would take it anyway and spend it on crap instead of city needs. it's all bullshit.

Its simple, the people voting are retarded and dont understand basic finance/economics. They only read the header and think " well yeah, I want a,b, or c. It will help people and I want to help people." They are idiots who literally dont understand how any of this works.
