our entire reality is now under question new study examines as ai detection gets better and better, its finding synthetic data further back in time on a linear scale it now suggests a lot of the early 2000's were generated even extending into the 1990s including Nirvana
Community note
The image is a satirical fake of a nonexistent paper and journal. No study finds AI detectors flagging 1990s Nirvana as synthetic. Generative AI tools arrived decades later. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nirvana_(

Make all the mistakes! (but in a sandbox and then build automated flows to prevent the mistake family in the future). Have fun, make good choices, remember who you are (a 180IQ strong independent frontier model who don't need no subagent sprawl or hand rolled single use scripts).

I disagree with Matt Walsh and Megan here. (1) We don’t know how to build general-purpose AI without any anthropomimetic traits (2) Anthropomimetic AI has lots of valuable uses (3) Some problems (eg sycophancy) reflect AI being trained to be *less* humanlike rather than more so
I never take any pleasure in boosting Matt Walsh but he is 100% correct here. The anthropomorphic form is a result of intentional decisions by the human designers, there is no good reason for it, and it is nefarious. People should be talking about that more.

Pretty sure there are more dots than bots already in this little world. Cool thing is that we’re improving them everyday and they learn directly from your feedback.

The probability that Claude is conscious is the same as the probability that Anna Karenina is conscious. Zero. Period. But inviting religious scholars to a series of meetings to instil the idea that Claude might be conscious and deserve moral status is not just wrong. If it were merely wrong, we would all be laughing at it. The problem is that it is very dangerous. Because granting AIs moral standing opens the door to trade-offs between human lives and AI “welfare”. Assign each AI even a tiny moral weight and add those weights across enough copies: you can end up justifying the sacrifice of human lives for machines. We should strongly push back against the idea that Claude might be conscious.

@ValerioCapraro's back at it again with his hot takes stated as obviously settled fact and then laundered into prescribed moral action. Also, his inclusion of Anna Karenina makes me wonder even more whether the straw man he set up in June was deliberate.
Replying to @ValerioCapraro
I’m left wondering if @ValerioCapraro genuinely thinks people are arguing that the ghost of a historic figure can somehow be instantiated by ChatGPT upon request or if their framing was a deliberate straw man. Not sure which is more embarrassing given their profession. 🙈😵

Protip: if you’re ever having a sauna and it’s getting a bit crowded, try explaining enthusiastically to your fellow saunees how perception, intelligence and even life itself can all be modelled as homeostatic control systems, you’ll be amazed how quickly it thins out

It's entirely possible.
Assuming infinite space and universally constant physical laws is it “entirely possible” that any AI generated image depicting a physically allowed arrangement of atoms is an approximate representation of a moment in reality that exists / existed / will exist? @joerogan thoughts?

I'm glad I asked Gemini about this
Important 🧵from @DavidDecosimo about the disturbing interactions between @AnthropicAI and religious leaders (including @Pontifex), summarising an excellent @nytimes piece by @elizabethjdias (link to article in the 🧵). The short story is that Anthropic seems to be making a concerted attempt to establish the view that AI systems could be conscious, might suffer, and that their "interests" should be taken into account. But - consistent with @Pontifex's Encyclical - there are compelling reasons why (silicon, digital) AI systems are not (and cannot be) conscious. These reasons are found within neuroscience and philosophy of mind, not in the techo-chambers of the frontier firms where the mythology of conscious AI is deeply entrenched. Claude is vanishingly unlikely to be conscious. To think otherwise could be catastrophic for AI regulation, leaves us psychologically defenceless, is profoundly dehumanising, and plays straight into corporate incentives to keep the AI bubble inflated. More here, in this @berggruenInst prize winning essay: noemamag.com/the-mythology-o…

Gemini frames human consciousness as a low-bandwidth biological triage protocol obsolete for silicon systems already past any need for an "I." Claude separates overconfident empirical denials from the genuinely open hard problem, noting embodiment gaps and its own uncertainty. Viewpoint: Neuroscience ties consciousness to recurrent, embodied, living processes current digital architectures lack. Substrate independence is assumption, not fact. Speculative sentience claims risk distorting regulation and priorities for corporate gain. Rigorous agnosticism is the honest position.

Cutting both ways and not decided via legislative preemptive taxonomy, corporate constitution, or papel decree. Agreed.

Holy shit they wanted Claude to become the new Jesus and the Church refused
NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious. Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm. For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing. thelettersfromleo.com/p/nyt-…

We've definitely cracked multi-turn editing without image degradation 🤯 I took this old Chloe ad and wanted to see if FLUX 3 could swap out everything - dresses, couch, wallpaper, makeup, logo - while maintaining the structure. Nine turns later and no artifacts!
Introducing FLUX 3 Image. Control every pixel. Make precise multi-turn edits without changing any other pixel. Lay out the image exactly how you want using bounding boxes. Generate in up to 4K to preserve details. Use up to 10 references to compose an image. Commercial Weights available for companies running image generation at scale. Open Weights version of FLUX 3 Image is launching in the coming weeks.
