I was shocked at how easy this was to do. Along the way I had the happy realization that "abandonware" doesn't exist anymore. Any program can with very little effort be made to run on any hardware.
Fun weekend project: I had Opus 5.5 port Myth, an old Bungie game I loved in high school, to web assembly. In theory it supports the full single player campaign and PvP multiplayer. myth.game

To do this, I used the Myth II executable along with the TFL map packs created by the folks at project magma projectmagma.net/ I spent very little time testing it out so if you encounter any bugs feel free to DM.

Wonderful essay. Leave it to a mathematician to express this feeling so beautifully.
Reading all those recent beautiful essays by Terry Tao, Kevin Buzzard and @wtgowers, I could not resist, but write up my deeply personal perspective on how I perceive and see things: docs.google.com/document/d/e…

"Do not bet against the airplane. The skeptics who say AI can't conjecture, can't theorize, and can't explain are describing last spring's models. Within months, they will be describing nobody. The evidence is already on the table, and those with eyes can see it."

i feel like people do not grok how important celld is. it's scalable applications of arbitrary complexity. the only dependency is s3. once you see it, you'll realize there's no point to traditional javascript runtimes in serving applications - only for build processes (eg bundling) and scripting. the networking and scaleability are deeply rooted not only in the distributed runtime (celld), but in the programming model itself (largely kenton's design) I wasn't quite sure when I started celld how well this could be made to work, but we've been running it in bigger capacities and getting user reports over the last months. Actually handles load surprisingly well. (any experience in the comments to share?) because the programming model does not expose the underlying linux system, you can actually think of celld as a distributed operating system - running in user space of linux. it only runs one program / doesn't support multi-tenant, but it has system services like an operating system. it's all about networking - i like to think of it as the practical modern version of plan9 or even erlang beam.

This is cool. I suspect that going forward the strength of a product will be determined the "people harness" built around it: custom tools that allow the builders to focus their attention on the details that separate great from merely good.
Been trying to up the level of quality in animation in my game prototype, so been getting Claude to teach me & find references. I asked Claude to make an animation editor where we could iterate on the jump, I'm really happy with how it came out. Here's a side-by-side video

Vivian has given us invaluable guidance over the past few months - I can confidently say that without her help, we wouldn't be where we are today. Much deserved 😁
I’m joining @ycombinator as a General Partner. YC is a homecoming for every GP. All of us were previously YC founders, and lived the journey that we support founders through every day. Our alma mater taught us the lessons that we pass on. My founder path was infinitely harder than I thought it would be. We hit incredible highs and brutal lows. We came within a few months of zero runway. The YC mantras kept me going: make something people want, and don’t die. Over the course of my companies, we touched thousands of lives: employing people in almost every US state (Alaska still evades me!), and teaching STEM to students from every walk of life. Now, I’ve had the privilege of working with founders who are tackling some of the hardest problems today, including defense, space, energy, and manufacturing. We’re also entering an era of diffusing AI across businesses of all sizes, and founders are bringing these tools into their old workplaces and new customers to make work better. Finally, I’m particularly interested in our work at YC to partner closely with the government to make sure technology serves everyone. Our Startup Industrial Base conference yesterday was the start of this, with more to come. Founders are the backbone of American innovation and core to the future of our country and economy. Thank you to the YC partnership for believing in me, and the YC founders for trusting me. There’s never been a better time to make something people want.

YC has the largest partnership in history now - 19 including me. We all went through YC and are alums and founders ourselves. I'm so proud to welcome Vivian and Raphael to the partnership.
We’re excited to welcome @vivianmshen and @raphaelschaad as YC’s newest General Partners! Vivian and Raphael first came to YC as founders. Vivian co-founded Juni Learning (W18), which teaches kids coding and math, and later founded Acely, an AI tutor for college prep. Raphael founded Cron (W20), the calendar app that became Notion Calendar. They built products used by millions of people, then returned to YC as Visiting Partners to help other founders. Now they're doing it full-time. ycombinator.com/blog/welcome…

I can't emphasise this enough, LAUNCH NOW! Almost everyone I've spoken to from YC wishes they launched earlier. Don't put up a waitlist, don't wait until your product is 'perfect' (it never will be), and don't worry about the judgment of others.

The only thing that matters for flights is starlink. The only thing that matters for cars is if they drive themselves.
I am now a single-issue flight purchaser and that issue is whether the plane has @Starlink or not.

Related: it's weird that right now @united flights are a coin flip between free starlink and viasat, which does not work, for $8.

Excited to share that @outworldlabs tied for first place at the @ycombinator F26 Product Showcase (G1). Thanks to @koomen, @golda, @dflieb, @maxkolysh, the alumni, and everyone else that made this possible. More soon!
